Dear Friends,

First of all, I want to express my condolences to the victims and their families in the horrible tragedy at Florida State University this week. Anytime there is an active shooter, it has implications for the entire community. Even in the Florida Capitol, we took precautions to ensure everyone's safety. Maggie and I are keeping all who were affected in our thoughts and prayers.

During Week 7 of the 2025 Legislative Session, I had the opportunity to lead on several critical initiatives and proudly represent the values and voices of our community in the Capitol. It was a week of meaningful progress, purposeful action, and powerful moments of unity.

One of the key highlights was presenting major legislation that moves Florida forward. I introduced CS/HB 433 – Administrative Procedures, a bill designed to modernize and streamline our state’s administrative processes, increasing transparency and making government more efficient and accessible to all Floridians. I also championed HB 919 – Nursing Education Programs, which aims to strengthen our nursing workforce by enhancing educational opportunities, helping to meet the growing healthcare demands across the state.

This week also included a celebration of Children’s Week at the Capitol, a heartfelt reminder of why we do this work. Walking through the rotunda, surrounded by beautiful artwork created by children from every corner of Florida, was a powerful call to continue fighting for a brighter future for the next generation. I was honored to join fellow legislators in a press conference addressing key issues impacting children and to participate in the Legislative Prayer Breakfast, where we came together in reflection and shared purpose.

As we move forward in session, I remain deeply committed to championing policies that uplift families, expand opportunity, and build a stronger, more resilient Florida for everyone. Thank you for the trust you place in me — with your continued support, we’re making real progress, together.

This week, I had the opportunity to engage in meaningful debate during the PreK-12 Budget Subcommittee as we continued working through the state budget. Education remains one of my top priorities, and these discussions are critical to ensuring that our schools, teachers, and students receive the support they need to succeed.

Adequate and equitable funding is the foundation of a strong education system. As we navigate the budget process, I am committed to advocating for strategic investments that prioritize student achievement, empower educators, and strengthen our public schools across Florida.

These policy debates are not just procedural — they shape the future of education in our state. I remain dedicated to championing policies that promote opportunity, equity, and success for every child. Let’s continue striving for a future where every student can thrive.

One of the most heartwarming traditions each legislative session is Children’s Week. Walking through the Capitol rotunda, surrounded by vibrant, hand-drawn artwork from children across Florida, is a powerful reminder of the purpose that guides our work.

Advocating for policies that protect, educate, and uplift our youth remains one of my highest priorities. Their creativity, optimism, and spirit fill the Capitol with energy and inspiration — reminding us all of the responsibility we have to build a brighter future for the next generation.

The Capitol courtyard was filled with energy and purpose during Children’s Week, as organizations from across the state gathered to showcase their vital work on behalf of Florida’s youth. From health services to education and advocacy, each group plays a critical role in shaping brighter, more equitable futures for our children.

It was truly inspiring to witness the passion and dedication of so many individuals and organizations working together to make a lasting difference in the lives of young Floridians.

It was an honor to stand alongside Speaker Daniel Perez and Representative Susan Valdés at the Children’s Week press conference. Their steadfast commitment to placing children’s issues at the forefront of our legislative agenda is truly commendable.

Children’s Week serves as a powerful reminder that when we invest in our youth, we’re investing in the future of Florida — a future built on opportunity, equity, and hope.

HB 919 – Nursing Education Programs was presented in committee this week, advancing a key initiative to strengthen nursing education across Florida. The bill is designed to ensure nursing students receive high-quality instruction and support, while establishing improved performance standards to hold programs accountable.

With Florida’s growing healthcare demands, investing in the development of a skilled and supported nursing workforce is more critical than ever. This legislation represents a meaningful step toward meeting those needs and preparing the next generation of healthcare professionals.

It was an honor to co-host this year’s Legislative Prayer Breakfast alongside Representative Mike Gottlieb. Gathering with colleagues for a morning of prayer and reflection offered a meaningful reminder of the shared values that unite us and the deeper purpose that guides our service to the people of Florida.

CS/HB 433 – Administrative Procedures was presented in committee this week. This bill modernizes and streamlines Florida’s administrative rulemaking process under Chapter 120, enhancing transparency, public participation, and regulatory efficiency. It’s a comprehensive update that ensures state agencies operate with greater accountability and responsiveness to the needs of Floridians.
