Rep. Evans in the Community

Rep. Evans Joins WTTW to Discuss South Chicago Chapel Tragedy

A recent investigation involving the South Chicago Chapel has sparked community outrage and highlighted urgent gaps in oversight within the funeral industry. Rep. Evans believes every family in Illinois deserves the guarantee that their loved ones will be treated with absolute dignity, respect, and care during their most vulnerable moments.

In a recent interview with WTTW Chicago Tonight, Rep. Evans emphasized that restoring and protecting public trust must remain the top priority for state leaders. Achieving long-term reform requires bringing all key stakeholders to the table—including affected families, funeral service professionals, industry regulators, and lawmakers.

By conducting a thorough review of existing state oversight and identifying regulatory breakdowns, Rep. Evans and his colleagues aim to craft thoughtful, strong legislation. The goal is to enhance professional accountability, enforce stricter compliance standards, and guarantee robust consumer protections for families across Illinois.

Rep. Evans remains committed to doing the necessary policy work to rebuild community trust and ensure the state gets this reform right.

We will do the work — and we will get it right.

NCSL President Emeritus Evans Visits Ireland to Strengthen Irish-Illinois Relations

Rep. Evans had the amazing opportunity to walk through Dublin and Belfast earlier this month as President Emeritus of the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) with his legislative colleagues from across the nation.

As government leaders, they have a responsibility to work together, build bridges, and find common ground—even when they come from different communities, backgrounds, or perspectives. This visit was a powerful reminder that meaningful progress is possible when leaders listen to one another, strengthen relationships, and remain committed to collaboration in service to the people they represent.

Some of the sites Rep. Evans visited included the Belfast Peace Walls, Clonard Monastery, and the City Life Center.

During his visit to the Irish Parliament in Dublin, Rep. Evans appreciated Minister Helen McEntee taking time out of her schedule to meet with the delegation. They also had the privilege of meeting members of the Northern Ireland Assembly and touring the historic Hillsborough Castle, where the royal family stays during visits to Northern Ireland.
