From Repairs to Residences, A Month of Impact

A New Roof, A Stable Future - Nick's Story

In this month’s feature, we are proud to share the story of Nick, a longtime Marysville resident whose passion for helping others extends beyond his own front door. For years, Nick has dedicated his life to rescuing and rehabilitating Alaskan Malamutes, giving dozens of dogs a second chance at life. But when the roof over his own head began to fail, he found himself facing a crisis he couldn’t solve alone.

With leaks worsening and no way to afford repairs on a fixed income, Nick feared he might lose the home he had built for both his family and his dogs. That’s when he learned about the Yuba County Owner-Occupied Repair Program, administered by Habitat for Humanity Yuba/Sutter with support from Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding.

Thanks to this vital program, Nick received a brand-new roof, restoring safety and stability to his home and allowing him to continue his rescue work. His story is a powerful reminder of how one well-timed repair can preserve not just a house, but a legacy of compassion and community care.

Habitat Yuba/Sutter Acquires Orland Apartments

We are proud to announce that we have taken over ownership of the Orland Arbor Apartments, marking a significant step forward in our mission to provide safe, affordable housing to underserved populations in rural areas. This acquisition includes two properties, totaling 82 units, with 44 multi-family units and 38 senior-designated units, located at 817 & 819 Newport Avenue in Orland, California.

The Orland Apartments offer a range of amenities designed to enhance residents' quality of life, including mature landscaping, a clubhouse, a business center, and accommodations for individuals with disabilities. Conveniently located near shopping, restaurants, and pharmacies, the complex provides easy access to essential services. The recently renovated apartments feature spacious one, two, and three-bedroom units, all equipped with central heating and air conditioning, ensuring comfort and a high standard of living.

Residency at the Orland Arbor Apartments is structured to prioritize those most in need of affordable housing. All prospective residents must meet eligibility and screening requirements, including income and asset verification. Income limits are determined based on household size, reinforcing our mission to serve low-income individuals and families.

This acquisition strengthens our commitment to long-term affordable rental solutions, fostering community stability and growth. The Orland Arbor Apartments will be a vital resource for low-income households, helping to combat housing insecurity and support the local community. Read more

Empowering Future Homeowners: Recap of our First-Time Homebuyer Class

This month, Habitat for Humanity Yuba Sutter’s Family Services Department successfully hosted a free Pre-Purchase Housing Class, designed to help individuals and families navigate the first-time homebuying process. Held on March 11th and 12th in Yuba City, the interactive sessions offered participants a clear, step-by-step overview of what it takes to become a homeowner, from understanding mortgage options to preparing necessary documentation and knowing what to expect during closing.

For many in our community, the idea of owning a home can feel overwhelming or out of reach. This class helped break down those barriers by offering practical guidance and expert support to make the path to homeownership more accessible. Through workshops like this, Habitat for Humanity Yuba Sutter continues to empower local residents with the knowledge and confidence they need to move toward stable, affordable housing.

For those who missed this session, we encourage you to stay connected for future educational opportunities. Together, we are building stronger, more informed homeowners—one step at a time

Madd Love Community Fridge Ribbon Cutting

This month, we proudly celebrated the ribbon cutting of the Madd Love Community Fridge, a new initiative that brings fresh, healthy food directly to those who need it most.

The fridge is located in our lobby at 202 D Street in Marysville and is open to the public Tuesday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is stocked with nutritious options and available to anyone in need, no questions asked.

This meaningful project was made possible through the hard work of local students and the support of our partners at the Blue Zones Project Yuba Sutter and the Yuba Sutter Food Bank. We are honored to be part of this community effort to increase access to healthy food and promote well-being.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this project a reality. Your support is helping create a stronger, healthier community for all.

A Day for Women

Earlier this month, members of the Habitat Yuba Sutter team were proud to attend A Day for Women, an event dedicated to celebrating the strength, resilience, and impact of women throughout the Yuba-Sutter community.

The event brought together community members, leaders, and organizations to recognize the vital roles women play across all sectors, from public service, education, healthcare, nonprofit work, and beyond. It was a day filled with inspiration, connection, and appreciation for the women who shape our community every day.

We are deeply grateful to the organizers for hosting such a meaningful event. Their efforts made the day not only a celebration but also a reminder of the ongoing importance of uplifting and supporting women in our community.
