Do you love your guitar but don't particulary like the sound of the mini-humbuckers it came with? Do you want to try some new tones in a familiar guitar? The Rio Grande Baby Soapbars are designed to be direct, drop-in replacements for mini-humbuckers found in many guitars.
Years ago Larry Cragg, guitar technician for Carlos Santana and Neil Young, pulled the mini-humbuckers from the 1978 Les Paul Deluxe belonging to Mike Ness of Social Distortion and threw them in the trash. You may not feel quite so strongly about mini-humbuckers as Larry, and you may not be looking for Mike's sound, but P90s offer tonal options that are not available in mini-humbuckers. More and more players are discovering the smoothness, fullness and grit of P90s. With the Rio Grande Baby Soapbars, installation is direct and easy with no modifications. If you want to go back to the mini-humbuckers, or alternate between the Baby Soapbars and mini-humbuckers in the same guitar, it's no problem.
Two Different Sounds
Two basic models of the Rio Grande Baby Soapbar are available. The Baby Bluesbar, designed for the bridge position, is a slightly overwound P90 offering additional output, crunch and sustain compared to a standard-wound P90. For the neck position, the Baby Jazzbar offers lower output compared to the Bluesbar for chime, clarity and that glassy tone only a great P90 can deliver. The Baby Jazzbar comes RWRP for hum-cancelling when combined with the bridge pickup. You can get both the Baby Bluesbar and the Baby Jazzbar as a set in the Baby Barpack.
Baby Soapbars come in a wide variety of covers, including black, creme, chrome, nickel, toasted nickel, distressed nickel and gold. Mounting options include pickguard mount, flat mounting ring and soapbar P-90 ring mount.
