Hello All,
It is spring and with spring you can expect 136 different kinds of weather and a rain of words from your friends at Featherstone Winery.
Rumours of my death have been greatly exaggerated...

…so quipped Mark Twain. Our Gewurztraminer vines must have felt the same way. The harsh winter conditions of 2013 & 2014 killed many G-vines and froze off the fruiting canes on the remainder of them (these days, that nasty polar vortex seems like a distant, chilly memory). We had given up on Gewurztraminer as a viable grape. Any yet, and yet... we couldn’t decide what to do to replace them. We focused instead on replacing the dead vines on the rest of the property and left the Gewurztraminer to the fatal rumour.

However, like a phoenix-- the mythical bird that dies in flames and is reborn from its ashes-- the Gewurztraminer vines that we had believed to have died from winter burn, arose to produce a small crop of grapes in 2016. The wine we have crafted from it is dry, with lychee and rosewater aromas, grapefruit notes and a little spice. We have named it “Phoenix”. This unique and somewhat miraculous wine will be available for sale in May for  $18.95/750 ml bottle.

Cheers! Louise
"The more you explain it, the more I don't understand it."

Our retail hours in April are a little tricky.  Be clever and pay attention close, it will all make sense.

a) Sat April 1, 2017: the tasting room opens for the season.

b) Throughout April and May, we are open to the public on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 11 am- 5:30 pm (including the Easter weekend).

c) The exception to (a) and (b) is April 22 & 23. We will be closed for a private event.

d) In June, July and August we are open 7 days a week.

There, see! Simple as a,b,c (and d is, like, a no-brainer).

Your reward for knowing your alphabet is  a delicious array of wines for you to sample & purchase,  with many new vintages being released this spring.
...a good and wholesome thing is a little harmless fun in this world; it tones a body up and keeps him human and prevents him from souring.

Join us for dinner along with your best 4- legged friends as we present an En Bark Supper Club Dinner at Boehmer Restaurant in Toronto on  April 3, 2017.
Be there or chew the couch cushions.
For more information and to make a reservation, please contact the restaurant directly. www.boehmer.ca/
Heaven goes by favour. If it went by merit, you would stay out and your dog would go in. [So true, So very, very true. As interjected by Bocci and Guinness, our vineyard pooches]

On July 8 & 9, The Muddy Paws Wine Festival will encourage you to "Come. Sip. Stay". This unique festival is an opportunity to celebrate excellent wine and food at two of Niagara’s premier wineries -- and to bring along your best four-legged friends.

On this weekend, Vineland Estates Winery and Featherstone Estate Winery will open their doors to friendly, on-leash dogs who wish to accompany their owners.

At both wineries, wine-by-the-glass will be available ($8 incl hst), live music will delight you all afternoon and chefs will be serving up delicious fare ($8 per plate).

For the four-legged visitors, fresh dog treats will be baked in our wood-fired pizza oven, National Service Dogs will be visiting with their puppies-in-training and a portion of day's sales will be in  support their heaven-sent work.

The list of goings-on is as long as a wiener dog, so please visit the website for more information and to order tickets: www.muddypawswine.ca

The 2017 Muddy Paws Wine Festival runs (and sometimes will fetch)  Saturday, July 8 and Sunday, July 9 from 12:noon to 5:00pm. Tickets are $20 + HST and give access to the Festival area at both wineries for one day.

We will go ahead rain or shine. After all, we invite muddy paws.

You’ll be able to enjoy a glass of wine and thin crust pizza while lounging about, soaking in the vineyard views.

(Last year’s menu of charcuterie and cheese boards will not be available).
I am no lazier now than I was forty years ago, but that is because I reached the limit forty years ago.
Still, there is room for improvement. That room would be the Featherstone Veranda, which invites laziness in all its glorious manifestations.

New this year, we will be firing up our wood-burning pizza oven on Saturdays and Sundays from noon-4:00 pm.

The Veranda will open for the season on May 20, 2017 and closes on Labour Day.
