 Early Childhood Families

Dear EC Families,

Thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to work with your child and your family.  I have enjoyed getting to know all our new preschoolers and look forward to seeing them grow!

This year we are beginning to implement aspects of Conscious Discipline.  Conscious Discipline is a comprehensive, multi-disciplinary self-regulation program that integrates social-emotional learning, school culture, and discipline.  It helps us build our school based on internal resources of safety, connection, and problem solving versus external rewards and punishment.
The three core components of Conscious Discipline are:
Safety-- self-regulation, manage upset
Connection-- compassionate culture, engage in relationships, help each other, change perceptions of conflict
Problem-Solving-- changing response to conflict, social-emotional skills to increase the ability to adapt to changing situations (resiliency)

Part of year one implementation is introducing, teaching, and using calming techniques and I love you rituals to form relationships.  We are also doing greetings and goodbyes along with Brain Smart Start, which I will provide more information on in the upcoming weeks.

Each week I will be sending home the calming technique and I love you ritual that has been taught in the classroom.

We hope that you can use these at home as well and assist us in developing safety, connection, and problem-solving skills in your child.

As always, please contact me if you have any questions, concerns, or celebrations!

Working with you,
Miss Misty

 I Love You Ritual:
Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star

Twinkle, twinkle little star,
Hold child's hands up high, touch fingers, and twinkle

What a wonderful child you are.
Bring arms down to rest on each other's shoulders

With bright eyes and nice round cheeks,
Touch near child's eyes and cheeks

A talented person from head to feet.
Swing child's arms up to his head and down to his feet

Twinkle, twinkle little star,
Twinkle fingers together again

What a wonderful child you are.
Smile and hug!
