AKSHOBYHA PRAYERS AT DGL NUNNERY
The nuns at Dongyu Gatsal Ling Nunnery hold a three-hour prayer ritual of the Buddha Akshobhya once a month on the day of New Moon. This ritual is especially beneficial for those who are recently deceased. Prayers are offered for all beings so it is not necessary to be Buddhist to benefit.
For US residents who would like to make a tax-deductible offering for a prayer request, please click the link below and locate the "Prayer Request" category. Please add notes about the deceased, including their name, age, and date and cause of passing.

MORE ABOUT AKSHOBYHA BUDDHA
Akshobhya is the Buddha of the eastern direction who represents the Mirror-like Wisdom, which overcomes the affliction of Anger. He is coloured blue like lapis lazuli and sits in the Earth Witnessing pose with his right hand touching the ground and his left hand in equipoise upon which stands an upright Vajra. His throne is supported by elephants.
Sometimes he is dressed in the three robes like Shakyamuni Buddha, otherwise he is shown in sambhogakaya aspect adorned with silks and jewels and wearing a crown. Akshobhya represents the skandha of Form and the element of water. His celestial Pure Realm is known as
Abhirati
in Sanskrit and
Ngön-pa Gah
in Tibetan. Jetsun Milarepa and Sakya Pandita, among many others, went to Ngön-pa Gah at the time of death.
In the Drukpa Kargyu tradition, the practice of Akshobhya is particularly emphasised, the lineage proceeding through Palden Atisha, especially for purification and as a ritual for the dead and dying.
The nuns at DGL have completed several months of strict retreat on the Akshobhya sadhana and accomplished the requisite mantra recitations. Therefore, they are fully qualified to perform this three-hour Akshobhya ritual, which they do every month at New Moon with the sincere intention to benefit and liberate those beings wandering after death in the bardo or intermediate state.
If you have no need for a tax-deduction, you can email the Nunnery in India directly at

with the name, age, date and cause of passing and, if possible, a photo of the deceased.

The DGL Nunnery nuns recite Green Tara each day. Another prayer option is to offer dedications for a month of Green Tara practice. Why Green Tara? We praise Tara for all the qualities that she embodies. She has the ability to act very swiftly. Prayers to Tara bring fearlessness, negativities are pacified, obstacles and difficulties are overcome, and aspirations are fulfilled.
You can sponsor Green Tara prayers for a month by clicking on the link below and then locating the "Prayer Request" category. If you are a US resident, your offering is tax-deductible.
