In May, five Midwest Mission staff members traveled to San Pedro Sula, Honduras to visit and learn from the organizations that receive Midwest Mission supplies. They traveled with Food For The Poor, our partner who serves Latin American and Caribbean countries. The team visited CEPUDO, the organization who distributes supplies for Food For The Poor in Honduras.
While there, it was a priority to talk with recipients to learn how we can improve our Kits and the other supplies we send. Whether at the Maternity Clinic, the Agriculture School, Angels of Hope Homes, or CEPUDO’s warehouse, the team learned a lot about what items were needed, and ways to improve how we do things here at Midwest Mission. You can learn more about the trip in our Summer Update.
The organizations shared their needs, and so upon return, the goal was to send a shipment that fulfilled some of their specific needs. Sarah Frazee, Inventory Specialist, who was on the trip headed up finding the supplies they requested. She found cooking ware for the Agriculture School, medical equipment for the Maternity Clinic, and other items for the Angels of Hope homes.
Another request was for school desks! CEPUDO was building 11 schools throughout Honduras that needed desks. While there, we talked through how many they would need: 180 — that's a lot of desks!
This week, that shipment came to fruition! On Tuesday, August 20, a container was filled with supplies that will bless the communities Midwest Mission visited back in May.
The shipment included:
- 20 Bed Packs
- 40 Cover Them With Love Quilts
- 9 Electric Sewing Machines
- 280 Student Kits
- 180 Student Desks
- Fire Equipment
- 78 Dometic coolers
- Medical supplies
- Cooking ware
- Gloves
- Mattresses
The value of this shipment was $252,143.00!
We look forward to hearing how the items you provide have made a difference in the communities of Honduras.
