Are you ready for California's balcony inspection laws on January 1st, 2025?
SB-721, prompted by a balcony collapse in Berkeley in 2015, requires regular inspections of some wood or wood-based exterior structures, such as balconies, decks, and staircases which are 6 feet or more above the ground.
The inspections must be carried out by "a licensed architect, licensed civil or structural engineer, a building contractor holding specified licenses (“A,” “B,” or “C-5” license with at least five years of experience), or an individual certified as a building inspector or building official".
You need to ensure that your apartment building is inspected by January 1st 2025, and every six years thereafter. Make sure you don't get caught out!
