Requirement for Physicians or Groups to Register for California Data Sharing Agreement

We wanted to alert you that all California health care entities including physicians, physician groups, clinical labs and other entities need to register and acknowledge the Data Sharing Agreement. The new law directs the California Health and Human Services Agency (CalHHS) to establish a Data Exchange Framework designed “to enable and require real-time access to, or exchange of, health information among health care providers and payers through any health information exchange network, health information organization, or technology that adheres to specified standards and policies.”

The deadline to register was January 31, 2023 but you can still register to become compliant. A physician group can register on behalf of all of its members so individual registration is unnecessary.

It is required to be signed by January 31, 2023. However if the physician group has less than 25 physicians, the deadline is January 31, 2026.
