Notorious fur mill in Ohio permanently closed - LARC brings home seven beautiful souls

These animals lived in tiny wire cages with wire floors - smaller then the travel crates we brought them home in!

CAUTION: SEVERAL GRAPHIC PHOTOS

This fur mill was one of the worst we ever saw - not only did the owner catch wild foxes and coyotes with steel-jaw leghold traps (shown above) but he never provided any veterinary care for their injuries.

The owner was also breeding wolfdogs and foxes for the pet trade and those he couldn't sell he skinned for their coats.

Thousands of skinned animals were warehoused and not even used - what a tragic waste of life

This little guy made the most desperate sounds entreating Stan to please rescue him:

LARC to the Rescue

Above you can see the animals at this horrendous fur mill in Northern Ohio where LARC went to help rescue and transport animals. There is no doubt about it - this is where fur coats come from. There are no humane fur mills - it's not possible. And it is all legal because there are no protections for farmed animals whether for food or fur.

HSUS was called in after the owner died leaving over 400 animals to starve and freeze to death. HSUS saved more than 300 of them and reached out to LARC to come help.

Our foreman, Stan, drove 4,848 miles to go get six foxes and one lone coyote because he said he couldn't live with himself if he didn't! Thankfully our good friend Troy joined Stan to help with the drive back which they did in less than 40 hours!

Below you can see the first day of these precious rescues' new lives at LARC!!!

In their travel crates filled with straw - the first time they stood on anything but a wire cage bottom.

Stan and Troy make it back to LARC and our Team immediately gets to work - we do not want these animals to spend one more minute in a tiny crate.

First time in their entire lives these animals touch solid ground. Watch this sweet girl steal her yogurt on LARC's YouTube Channel, Video Shorts:

The six foxes and one coyote will be allowed time for adjustment in LARC's quarantine area and will be examined and inoculated by our veterinarian...and they will be loved for the rest of their lives

Extraordinary People Make LARC Shine

When we say things like "we couldn't do it without you" we truly mean it. And some people just push us to do even more. Ann M is one of those people who say "here you go, now get it done!" That is how we were able to buy the most technologically advanced mobile x-ray equipment so our animals do not have to be transported to our veterinarian's hospital but can be examined right on-site. And Mo and Ingrid L, both singly and together, are some of the best of what makes up Team LARC - helping to build our largest enclosure so that we can do rescues like the one we just did.

Innovative Octopuses, Half-Brained Birds, and More Animals With Magnificent Minds

We are delighted to introduce this wonderful new book by researcher Christina Couch. As she describes it, the book "dives into the neuroscience behind some incredible feats animals can do with their brains and how those neuro-talents stack up to similar processes in your mind. It's designed for young readers, ages 9 through 12, but it's really for anyone who's curious about how animals think and why they can do things like sleeping while flying or maintaining cognitive function for hundreds of years."

Christina interviewed over 40 people but she states: "reporting on Stan McDonald and Serenity Park was my absolute favorite part of writing this book. I'm very grateful to Stan, Dr. Lindner, and the rest of the Serenity Park team for giving me, and my readers, a glimpse into the amazing work happening at the sanctuary and to those researchers who provided an opportunity to explore the neuroscience underlying PTSD and fear."

All of us hope you will consider getting this book for the curious minds in your family....order here:

A Message from LARC's President

Dear Friends,

We are very relieved that life is getting back to "normal" for so many friends who lived near or in the Palisades and Eaton fire areas. We were very happy to help with evacuees and their animals and have offered our help to the American Legion Post 283, the Palisades Post, which has been helping veterans and their families in a most magnanimous way.

And we are beyond thrilled to be able to free, transport, and provide lifetime care for the foxes and coyote who survived a truly horror-story existence. We must remember that their is no humane way to make a fur coat, fur linings, fur trims, or fur anything!

I am grateful for having such a dedicated Team who would not stand by and jumped right in to help. As I've always said, the antidote to despair is Action!

In gratitude,

Lorin Lindner

January's Quiz

This is not exactly a Quiz but a Challenge!

We need to name the six foxes and the coyote. There are three female and three male foxes, and one female coyote. Along with naming them we ask that you pledge to provide a special treat for them each month for a year. Your pledge of $20 per month will buy them supplements to help with their bones, or toys, or other special treats.

You will get a picture of "your" fox each month emailed to you with your special treat and a mention in our monthly newsletter.

We need seven people to make a commitment to each one of these precious souls who were rescued from a lifetime of misery and from a horrendous death. Click this link below for the pledge:

December's Quiz

This is a horse's hoof! We had some very interesting guesses and I can see why! The winner though is Dale Tisdale of Tennessee.
