Arts and Letters Professors Rank Among World’s Top 2 Percent of Scientists
Nearly 70 Florida Atlantic faculty members, including Richard Shusterman, Ph.D., and Ali Farazmand, Ph.D., have been recognized among the world’s top 2 percent of scientists. The annual ranking, compiled by Stanford University and the academic publisher Elsevier, identifies the most influential researchers worldwide based on standardized citation metrics that assess career-long and recent research impact. Dr. Shusterman is the Dorothy F. Schmidt Eminent Scholar in the Humanities and Dr. Farazmand is a professor in the School of Public Administration. MORE

Theatre Lab Receives Multiple Awards
Theatre Lab, the professional resident company of Florida Atlantic’s Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters, and one of the only theater companies in all of Florida exclusively dedicated to new work, received multiple awards for its theatrical work in the 2024-25 season. MORE

Dean Horswell Added to Boca Walk of Recognition
Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters Dean Michael J. Horswell has been named one of The Boca Raton Historical Society's 23 Luminaries of the 2000s to be honored at Boca Raton’s Walk of Recognition. The centennial celebration recognizes individuals and institutions whose vision, leadership, and service have strengthened the Boca Raton community. MORE

Willa Granger’s Research Recognized by the Journal of the Society of Architectural Historians
Willa Granger, Ph.D., assistant professor, School of Architecture, looks at how a little-known Illinois company, the Americana Corporation, helped shape the modern nursing home in postwar America. During the 1960s, Americana developed a replicable model of suburban, hospital-adjacent facilities that blended real estate, institutional medicine and franchising – transforming eldercare into a standardized, corporate system tied to federal policy and funding . Sociology Professor Will McConnell Hosts Caregiver Symposium
Florida Atlantic's College of Medicine celebrated National Caregiver Month with a panel discussion about caregiver self-care and empowerment. Sharon Hart Wins Distinguished Woman Artist's Prize
Sharon Hart, associate professor, Visual Arts and Art History, was the first recipient of the inaugural Distinguished Woman Artist’s Prize from the Cultural Council for Palm Beach County. The award recognizes established female artists in the county at pivotal points in their careers. The prize ($10,000) is based on nominations from regional arts professionals and reviewed competitively by an independent national and international panel. MORE

An article by Meredith Ellis, associate professor, Anthropology, recounts her discovery and further research on two skeletons labeled “1928 Hurricane Victims 1 and 2, Belle Glade," in a Florida Atlantic storage closet with virtually no documentation beyond the deteriorated cardboard box and a slip of paper. Stephen Engle's Article Published in Nineteenth Century Studies
The article "A White Man Hangs for Black Freedom: Reckoning with John Brown's Execution for Racial Justice" was published in Nineteenth Century Studies. Engle's book "Reckoning with Justice: The Execution of John Brown" is forthcoming. Engle will also present a lecture on this topic through the Smithsonian Associates Lifelong Learning program in February 2026. MORE

Roland Oduro Ofori, School of Public Administration, recently had two articles published. The first in “Transforming Government: People, Process and Policy” is titled “Policy entrepreneurs and mobilization strategies: case studies of energy and natural resource policy reforms in Ghana.” The second is titled “Food waste recovery in the national school lunch program: drivers of milk waste and benefits of share tables” and was published in “Global Smart Food Systems.”
