Are you planning on submitting a Letter of Intent for a future submission?

If so, please let the research team know!

Although the research team isn’t required to be directly involved in the letter of intent (LOI) process unless financial (budget) or investigator time commitment is included in the LOI, it is helpful for us to be notified when a letter of intent is submitted to a sponsor. Sometimes, a sponsor notifies a PI that they have been invited to submit a full proposal on a tight timeline for full submission. Having that submission on our radar can help us better support faculty with the proposal process.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to

HEAL Initiative: Multilevel Interventions to Reduce Harm and Improve Quality of Life for Patients on Long Term Opioid Therapy (MIRHIQL) (R01 Clinical Trial Required)

Description: The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) seeks to support clinical trials that will evaluate multi-level interventions for patients who are using long-term opioid therapy to manage chronic pain for whom risks of continuing opioid therapy may outweigh the benefits of continued opioid use. NIDA seeks studies for pharmacologic management with or without non-pharmacological approaches for managing chronic pain in those currently using long-term opioids. Interventions can target patients, health care providers (inclusive of pharmacists) or health care systems to reduce chronic pain and opioid-related risks and improve quality of life.

This funding opportunity announcement (FOA) is part of the NIH’s Helping to End Addiction Long-term (HEAL) initiative to speed scientific solutions to the national opioid public health crisis. The NIH HEAL Initiative bolsters research across NIH to (1) improve treatment for opioid misuse and addiction and (2) enhance pain management. More information about the HEAL Initiative is available at: https://heal.nih.gov/

HEAL Initiative: Preventing Opioid Misuse and Co-Occurring Conditions by Intervening on Social Determinants (R01 - Clinical Trials Optional)

Description: Through the HEAL Initiative, NIH requests applications for studies designed to develop and test sustainable, scalable interventions to prevent opioid misuse, opioid use disorder, and co-occurring mental health conditions by intervening directly on social determinants of health (SDOH). This initiative aims to build an evidence base for preventive interventions that address inequities, social risks and/or social disadvantage. Interventions targeting social determinants may be structural (e.g. policy, regulatory, or systemic-wide changes) or designed to alter outcomes of individuals affected by contextual risk factors, and may be implemented in conjunction with psychosocial interventions designed to address behavioral risks.

Purpose

This Notice replaces NOT-OD-21-141 and provides program-specific information for the Extramural Loan Repayment Program for Health Disparities Research (LRP-HDR). The NIH Loan Repayment Programs (LRPs) are a set of programs established by Congress and designed to recruit and retain highly qualified health professionals into biomedical or biobehavioral research careers.

Additional detailed information about each LRP is provided at https://www.lrp.nih.gov/eligibility-programs and www.lrp.nih.gov/apply.

The NIH invites qualified health professionals who contractually agree to engage in NIH mission-relevant research for an average of at least 20 hours each week for at least two years, initially, to apply for an award in the Extramural LRP. The Extramural LRP repays up to $50,000 annually of a researcher's qualified educational debt in return for a commitment to engage in NIH mission-relevant research at a domestic, nonprofit, or government entity. Research funding from NIH is not required to participate in the Extramural LRP. LRP awards are based on an applicant's potential to build and sustain a research career.

Extramural LRP applications will be accepted from September 1 until November 17, 2022.

Both disease-modifying and symptomatic agents will be considered. This funding opportunity prioritizes diverse drug mechanisms and modes of action related to the biology of aging and other emerging therapeutic areas for dementia.
  •  Neuroimaging and CSF Biomarker Development: The aim of this RFP is to further develop and validate established biomarkers for which there is a clear clinical need in Alzheimer's disease and related dementias. This RFP prioritizes biomarkers with a defined context of use, a clear advantage over other relevant biomarkers, and a path to commercialization and/or clinical use.
  •  Prevention Pipeline: The ADDF seeks to support studies of cognitive symptoms due to health conditions, comparative effectiveness research, and epidemiological studies that probe whether the use or choice of drugs alters the risk for dementia or cognitive decline.
