Funding Opportunities

CHFS & State University Partnerships

The KY Cabinet for Health & Family Services (CHFS) is once again soliciting proposals for consideration under their State University Partnership (SUP) mechanism. CHFS has used this program in the past to solicit projects that are of interest to their mission, especially serving Medicaid enrollees. They are able to draw down 50/50 federal matching monies, and academic institutions are required to put forward the matching funds (must be non-federal dollars; if you plan to use your state salary as the match, you may want to check with your department chair or dean).

CHFS is only asking for 2-page proposals that fit within their interest areas and NOT full proposals, with a budget. The pdf “Research Topics for Universitiesoutlines specific interests, but CHFS has indicated that they are open to considering other proposals. The WORD document “SUP_Proposal_Tmp 2022 v2.0.docx” should be used to prepare the 2-page proposals.

Please submit your 2-page proposals directly to CHFS by Friday, July 15th. Proposals should be emailed to jilnar.masri@ky.gov, cc’ing carrie.banahan@ky.gov and jrichardson@ky.gov.

Since these 2-pagers are essentially letters of intent without a specific budget request, it is not necessary to obtain OSPA review at this point. If you receive a subsequent request from CHFS to submit a more detailed proposal and budget, you will then need to seek appropriate approvals through OSPA’s regular eIAF process.

If you have questions about this mechanism, please reach out to Teresa Waters (teresa.waters@uky.edu) or Jeff Talbert (jeff.talbert@uky.edu).

NIH Pragmatic Clinical Trials in Community Settings to Decrease or Prevent VCID Outcomes, Including in Populations that Experience Health Disparities (U01 Clinical Trial Required)

Description: The purpose of this funding opportunity announcement (FOA) is to solicit applications for pragmatic clinical trials to decrease or prevent negative clinical outcomes due to vascular contributions to cognitive impairment and dementia (VCID), including locally representative NIH defined populations that experience health disparities in dementia. Examples of responsive projects and interventions that affect VCID outcomes include, but are not limited to, blood pressure control implementation; lifestyle modification using aerobic exercise; and early detection and treatment of VCID risk factors.

NIH - Network for Personalization of Diagnostic Tests for Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) and Alzheimer’s Disease-Related Dementias (ADRD) in Older Adults with Multiple Chronic Conditions (MCCs) (U24 Clinical Trial Optional)

Description: This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) invites applications to establish a network that will conduct transdisciplinary aging diagnostic biomarker and/or imaging research projects focused on Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and Alzheimer’s disease-related dementias (ADRD) in persons living with multiple chronic conditions (MCCs). The aim of the network and its projects is to better align diagnostic testing with the needs and priorities of an aging population. The national consortium will: 1) assemble existing data and acquire real-world data to ensure that the research sample is large with adequate representation of older adults living with well-characterized MCCs, and incorporate pre-specified subgroup analyses; 2) analyze data for performance and accuracy of biomarkers, including blood, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), and imaging, in older patients living with MCCs; and 3) conduct pilot studies involving specific AD/ADRD imaging and/or biomarkers in persons living with MCCs.
