The NIH Center of Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE) on Obesity and Cardiovascular Diseases, in collaboration with the Center for Clinical and Translational Sciences (CCTS) announce the availability of limited funds to support pilot projects focused on research examining obesity-associated diseases. Emphasis for support will be placed on pilot projects that examine the relationship between obesity and cardiovascular diseases, type 2 diabetes, COVID-19, cancer, or neurodegenerative diseases.  These pilot grants are intended to assist investigators new to this area of research to generate sufficient data to be competitive for extramural funding. 

**This is the final year of the Obesity-related Phase III COBRE so there is a strong chance that this will be the last Pilot Call under this mechanism. 

Funding Amount: Individual project awards (up to $50,000 in direct costs only) will be made on a competitive basis and must be spent by July 31, 2023.

Eligibility is limited to full-time regular, special, and clinical title faculty as well as full-time research faculty of the University of Kentucky. Junior faculty members are especially encouraged to apply.

Investigators in training including residents, post-doctoral fellows, and clinical fellows are not eligible to serve as PIs but may be co-investigators.

Description: With the increase in a variety of secondary data sources related to the use of research evidence (URE) and the growth of new methods and measures used in research on the use of research evidence, opportunities abound for those studying URE to advance the field.

We are announcing a special interest in applications that use secondary data to answer new questions on how and under what conditions we can improve the use of research evidence.

Analysis of existing data allows researchers to efficiently address high-value research questions without the cost and time of primary data collection. For this funding opportunity, secondary data may include, for example, administrative data, social media data, web metrics, or data collected in a previous study. Indeed, many current and former grantees have collected data during their grants but have been unable to fully analyze it to respond to new, emerging research questions. Now, investigators can use this data to contribute fresh insights to the URE literature. Proposed studies may aim to assess the use of research on youth outcomes, use existing methods and measures to code data in new ways, develop and apply theory, or use new methods to measure URE more efficiently. As always, we are interested in supporting research studies that advance theory and build empirical knowledge on ways to improve the use of research evidence by policymakers, agency leaders, organizational managers, intermediaries, and other decision-makers that influence systems serving youth in ways that benefit young people ages 5-25 in the United States.

Description: AHRQ seeks applications to disseminate and implement patient-centered outcomes research (PCOR) findings into innovative, evidence-based interventions to reduce healthcare disparities in chronic health conditions. Applications to this Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) are required to disseminate and implement PCOR findings across healthcare settings to address disparities in health outcomes and quality for racial and ethnic minority populations and AHRQ priority populations. Interventions must be focused on improving dissemination and implementation of evidence-based strategies, with the specific goal of reducing health and healthcare disparities. Though not limited to the following, areas where evidence-based interventions have demonstrated disparities reduction include:

1. Improving Control and Management of Chronic Conditions including Cardiovascular Disease (CVD)
2. Promoting Improved Cancer and Chronic Condition Screening
3. Improving Prenatal Care, Maternal Health, and Infant Mortality
