2022 Sustainability Challenge Grant Program call for proposals.

Summary: The Sustainability Challenge Grant (SCG) program is requesting research, scholarship, and creative proposals for the 2022-2023 funding cycle. The SCG Program was developed as a collaborative effort of the President’s Sustainability Advisory Committee, The Tracy Farmer Institute for Sustainability and the Environment, and the Office of Sustainability. Funding for the program is provided by the Executive Vice President for Finance and Administration, the Vice President for Research, the Office of the Provost, and the Student Sustainability Council. Sustainability, in this context, implies that the activities of the University of Kentucky are ecologically sound, socially just, and economically viable, and that they will continue to be so for future generations. A sustainability focus encourages the integration of these principles in curricula, research, and outreach. This principled approach to operational practices and intellectual pursuits prepares students and empowers the campus community to support sustainable development in the Commonwealth and beyond.     

Proposal submissions are due by May 11, 2022 at 11:59 p.m. Submissions and questions should be submitted by email to [email protected]. The project period for this call is July 1, 2022 through June 30, 2023.

Eligibility: All members of the University community are encouraged to develop project ideas. Project teams must be led by a faculty or staff member whose home unit/department agrees to manage the dispersal of funds. University cost centers will be provided to funded projects. Student involvement is strongly encouraged. Teams must include representatives from at least two distinct organizational units. Proposals not meeting the specifications of this RFP will not be considered for funding and will be returned without review. 

Funding: All awards are subject to the availability of funds, quality of the proposals submitted, and other applicable considerations. For 2022-2023, a total of $200,000 is expected with a maximum award of $50,000 per project. In previous years, the SCG program has awarded 6-8 projects. 

Agency: National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD)

Description: The purpose of this initiative is to support research that seeks to (1) understand the underlying mechanisms and (2) test interventions to address and mitigate the impact of health-related misinformation and disinformation on health disparities and the populations that experience health disparities. 

The projects supported by this initiative seek to stimulate multi-level research to understand and mitigate the harmful impacts of misinformation and disinformation among populations that experience health disparities and to inform public health practice. Outcomes of interest include physical and mental health, health decision-making, behavior change, adherence to evidence-based prevention and treatment guidelines/recommendations, and morbidity and mortality.
