We are inviting applications for high-quality brain tumour research focused on low-grade gliomas or other rare brain tumours. Priority will be given to projects with hypotheses that evaluate risk factors, or address access to care or issues of quality of life or patient outcomes

Applications are welcome from individual investigators or multidisciplinary teams (submitted by a lead investigator). Innovative proposals from early-career investigators with original concepts or collaborative approaches are strongly encouraged.

Research approaches may include clinical studies, laboratory-based studies, or population/public health studies.

The Trevor Harrison Civic Engagement Scholarship honours the legacy of lifelong political volunteer Trevor Harrison, who lived 12 years with an astrocytoma brain tumour while making meaningful contributions to Canadian public policy.

Created by his family, these $2,000 scholarships support politically engaged students impacted by a brain tumour who are pursuing post-secondary studies in political science, public policy, or related fields. Apply by October 31, 2025.

STUDENT RESEARCH COMPETITION

LAST CHANCE TO REGISTER AND JOIN US!

Join us at the Pam and Rolando Del Maestro Family Undergraduate Student Research Competition on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at 11 a.m.!

This event is your chance to:

  • Hear innovative research proposals from promising undergraduate students
  • Learn about emerging ideas in neuro-oncology and brain tumour science
  • Connect with a community of researchers, health-care professionals and advocates, all working together to advance understanding and improve outcomes for those affected by brain tumours.

Be inspired. Be informed. Be part of the progress. Don’t miss this unique opportunity! Your presence helps foster a stronger, more connected research community.

STUDIES AND SURVEYS

Your experience matters!

Your participation in studies and surveys is essential to advancing brain tumour research in Canada.

Learn about ways you or others in the brain tumour community can get involved in brain tumour studies and surveys, or share with us if you are looking to recruit. If eligible, we would love to share your work to help support.

OTHER FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES

The 2025 Momentum Grants program, funded by Brain Canada, aims to enable researchers to build upon their previously funded initial projects and explore new dimensions of their research with the potential to generate breakthroughs in our understanding of the brain.

This funding opportunity is open to previous recipients of Azrieli Foundation-Brain Canada Early-Career Capacity Building Grants or Future Leaders in Canadian Brain Research Grants. It has a funding envelope of $1,000,000 CAD to support up to five grants of $200,000 over two years.

The Challenge Grants program will support cancer research projects across the cancer continuum and across disciplines, with an ultimate goal of solving a problem (i.e., a ‘challenge’) in cancer that is meaningful to people affected by or at risk of cancer.

Applicants need to demonstrate meaningful engagement of people affected by or at risk of cancer throughout the research process (i.e., in the development, implementation, and/or dissemination of research findings) as well as anticipated contributions towards achieving potential future impacts. Applications from the four pillars of health research (i.e., biomedical; clinical; health services; and social, cultural, environmental and population health) are welcome.
