Internet of Things and the Myth of the Killer App

By Ryan Gerbrandt, Trilliant

The Smart City Opportunity for Utilities

By ScottMadden

As municipalities seek to grow and invest in infrastructure, there is pressure to modernize and incorporate new technologies, integrate sustainable resources and methods in order to increase the city's attractiveness and productivity, and improve citizen satisfaction. Recently, there has been much discussion of smart cities.

Want to Build a Smart City? Communication Holds the Key

By Charlie Nobles, Sensus

As the Internet of Things (IoT) and big data drive opportunities to create a more connected future, the promise of smart cities is turning into reality more each day. Thanks to innovation in smart infrastructure, utilities are finding new ways to leverage smart technology across lighting, electricity, water and gas to make their cities safer, more convenient and more livable.

What would Edison think of Today's Energy Grid?

By Lynn Good, Duke Energy

SMART Series: Water as a Tool for Industrial Economic Development
What role does water play in economic development? Turns out, water and water infrastructure can be the deciding factors in where companies decide to locate. Is our infrastructure in the Triangle region prepared for the influx of residents and companies predicted over the next twenty years? As agbio, data centers and IT, and advanced manufacturing companies grow in the Triangle, what role does water security play in their ability to grow and create jobs?

Hear from some of our local utility providers as they outline the growth patterns they’ve experienced and the technologies they’re utilizing to keep up with growth while maintaining premium service and keeping costs to a minimum.

RTCC Highlights

Show Me the Money
On June 6, the Research Triangle Cleantech Cluster, in partnership with RIoT, hosted multiple venture capital panel discussions to help cleantech entrepreneurs as they navigate the process of scaling up their own businesses. These panels were followed by a startup pitch competition, allowing entrepreneurs to pitch their products and services to a crowd of over 300 at Hunt Library!
Smart Cities Connect Delegation
Towards the end of June, RIoT and RTCC led a delegation of 12 NC cleantech companies and municipalities to the Smart Cities Connect Conference in Austin, TX. Delegates had the chance to tell the story of our region and promote our assets to conference attendees at our booth on the Expo Hall floor.
