Jillian McDonald is a Professor in the Art Department. She co-directed the Pace Digital Gallery from 2003 to 2014 and served as department co-chair from 2016 -2019. An artist, she makes videos, drawings, and web-based artwork inspired by horror film, Hollywood actors, and landscape. Recent video works feature remote northern locations that through animation and editing, live events, or the presence of figures appear haunted by paranormal events.
Professor McDonald’s work was the subject of a feature length CBC radio documentary IDEAS, and was reviewed in The New York Times, Art Papers, The Globe and Mail, The Toronto Star, Border Crossings, and Canadian Art. A discussion of her work appears in books including The Transatlantic Zombie, by Sarah J. Lauro, Stalking by Bran Nicol, and Deconstructing Brad Pitt ed. by Christopher Schaberg. She also published "Alone Together in the Dark: Horror-Based Artworks and Fan Participation in Urban and Extra-Urban Space ", in Media Art in the Urban Environment.

Professor McDonald is a 2020 recipient of a Canada Council for the Arts Concept to Creation Grant, is currently an artist in residence at the LMCC (Lower Manhattan Cultural Center) and will be a Visiting Artist at the AndersonRanch, CO, in October 2021.

Daniel Bender, PhD is Associate Professor in the Department of English and Modern Language Studies. His research interests include Early Literature (Antiquity through Early Modern); Shakespeare; Tudor education; educational theory; social class and literature; new humanities combining civic engagement and works of art; writing for social justice.
His book A New History of Tudor England: Essays for Students, Teachers and Workers was published May 2020 by Cambridge Scholars Publishing (UK). The essays reflect a new method of history-writing known as presentism. Issues of education and labor rights in Tudor England are identified as resurgent in our current educational system and in current labor struggles. The book is titled A New History not only because the essays connect past to present, but because they outline reforms that would make 21st century America more responsive to the needs of students and the rights of workers.
Professor Bender was also awarded a research grant by Université Clermont-Auvergne (France), to work with IHRIM, an early modern working group at UCA. His research focuses on Shakespeare's vision of climate change and the insight it offers now, especially regarding the move from fossil fuels to sustainable energy.

The Bridge Fund Award is designed to support faculty who submit competitive proposals to external granting agencies or foundations. Two to three grants of up to $5,000 (placed in a Scholarly Research Account) will be awarded. The funds can be used for research supplies, paying for services such as indexing, course release (upon college approval) or summer salary. Applications are encouraged from full-time faculty in any discipline and across all schools.
The deadline for submission is Friday, October 30, 2020 at 5pm.

Funding Opportunities for Students |
|
The Truman Scholarship provides up to $30,000 towards a graduate degree for students who plan to pursue careers in public service. Interested students can join Dr. Terri Babcock-Lumish, Executive Secretary of the Harry S. Truman Scholarship Foundation, to learn more about the Truman Scholarship via Zoom on October 30, 2020 from 11am-12:30pm.

The Goldwater Scholarship is now open! The Goldwater Scholarship provides to $7,500 a year to help cover costs associated with tuition, mandatory fees, books, room and board. Full-time, matriculated sophomores and juniors who intend to pursue a career in a natural science, mathematics or engineering are eligible to apply. If you know of one or more students who would be great candidates for the Goldwater Scholarship, please reach out them to Jenny Irwin, at jirwin@pace.edu.
