There are two obligations for Mass this “weekend”
Advent 2023 is the shortest it can be. The fourth “week” of Advent is only one day, Sunday, Dec. 24.
As a result, the Catholic faithful have an obligation to attend two Masses during this “weekend” - one for the Fourth Sunday of Advent and the other for Christmas Mass (whether Christmas Eve-Sun or Christmas Day-Mon).
Please be mindful not to miss your regular Sunday Mass ( 8am or 10 am) on Sunday, Dec 24 - the 4th Sunday in Advent.
O come Emmanuel!
Reminder:
Christmas Masses are
Christmas Eve - Sunday, Dec 24 at 8pm
Christmas Day - Monday, Dec 25 at 10am
Come let us adore Him!
Note: Fr Joseph's Christmas Cards will be distributed in all the Masses.
Reminder: No Religious Education class for the children on

Fr Joseph:
" I ask the Lord to give all of us a heart for the poor and suffering..."
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Jesus, Mary & Joseph!
The birth of Jesus changes everything! Yet without the eyes of faith, it can seem that it changes nothing. Christmas seems different when we are passing through a time of loss. Still, no matter what we may be going through in our lives, our families, the Church, this country or the world (Lord have mercy), our All Powerful, yet very humble & loving God is in the midst of everything and He has come to save us. This is truly Good News!
So, no matter how bumpy the ride, as long as you and I are where we ought to be, that is, living in His will, then the rest are “just details.”
He will work everything for his glory and for our greatest good - union with Him (Ro 8:28)!
As Christmas is upon us and a new year as well, I want to take this opportunity to express my appreciation for all of you. I am especially grateful for all the blessings that the Lord has poured out upon this little inner-city mission parish through so many of you. Thank you!
As we enter 2024, I ask the Lord to give all of us a heart for the poor and suffering, and for the spiritually lost. May this be the year when we bring home a friend or stranger who is hurting and lost in this broken world.
May the Lord grant you and your loved ones a joyful and peaceful Christmas and fruitful New Year!
In Jesus thru Mary & St Joseph,
Fr Joseph
PS Recently, there seem to be mixed messages coming from the Vatican, and the media adds their own spin to that communication. This can be a source of confusion for the faithful. Be assured that the Catholic Church’s teaching on Christian moral principles, including her teaching about marriage, can never change, because it is Jesus’ teaching. I would encourage everyone to watch the videos we send out on our constant contact, see below. These will help you to sort through any confusion with the simple refreshing truths of our faith.
These are trying times, but Jesus is and always will be the Head of the Church, and the gates of hell will never prevail against it. The Church may be tossed around by the waves, like a boat at sea, and we may even get a little sea sick, but, do not fear, it will never sink. Stay close to Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament and to our Blessed Mother, and everything will always become a means for our sanctification and His Glory!

Surrender Novena - in preparation for the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God
In preparation for the great feast of Mary, Mother of God on New Year's Eve/Day , we will be praying Fr. Dolindo Rotuolo's Surrender Novena . Day one will be tomorrow, Saturday, Dec 23.
Note that as witness to this prayer of surrender, we have incorporated into the novena Luke 1:41-55, which includes the beautiful Magnificat of Mary.
By joining the Virgin Mary in this prayer of faith and abandonment to the will of God, we offer both our body and soul to our Lord God for His will to be done in a complete fiat as Mary showed in the Annunciation. For Mary, it was more than just a complete surrender. When she said “let it be done to me according to your word”, she also allowed God to use her for His purpose. It’s an expression of her desire to help God carry out His plan even if she did not understand it or what it will entail for her.
In these times of great confusion, let us ask the Lord for the grace of total surrender to His Will. This is our best protection. With this protection, we can keep our focus on Jesus, and remain centered and peaceful, no matter the circumstance.
As Fr Joseph put it in his letter above:
So, no matter how bumpy the ride, as long as you and I are where we ought to be, that is, living in His Will, then the rest are “just details.”
So we will pray the Surrender Novena with Mary and in honor of her feast, Mary Mother of God on Jan 1st
Remember Day 1 of the Novena is tomorrow, Saturday, Dec 23 .

Fourth Sunday in Advent
Mary is the New Tabernacle
Mary is the new tabernacle. Through her perfect humility and faith, she became the Mother of God and the Mother “in the order of grace”. God, who cannot be contained by anything or anyone, came into the world through the tabernacle of Mary.
Would you build me a house to dwell in?” (2 S 7:5)
This question, asked of King David by God, seems simple enough, yet is bursting with implications and suggestions that only come to completion many centuries later with the conception and birth of Jesus Christ, the Son of David. Having settled into his palace, King David recognized how inappropriate it was to live in comfort while the ark of the covenant remained in a tent.
But God responded with a word of recollection and of promise. First, he reminded David of the past: it was God who chose David, who cared for him, who protected and guided him, and who conquered his enemies.
Then God pointed to the future, when he would build and establish the house of David from which would come an heir and a kingdom. This was fulfilled, in temporal terms, through Solomon, who did build the great temple in Jerusalem. But, of course, Solomon sank into sin and eventually the people were taken into exile. The perfect fulfilment would not come through military might and physical conquest, but through humility and holiness, through a virgin “betrothed to a man named Joseph, of the house of David.
God was still with his people; he was especially with Mary in a most unique way: “Hail, full of grace! The Lord is with you.” John Paul II, in the 1987 encyclical devoted to the Blessed Mother, Redemptoris Mater, noted that: “The fullness of grace announced by the angel means the gift of God himself.” God was with his people at Mount Sinai and throughout their forty years in the desert. Now, the angel told the maiden, the Holy Spirit will come and the “power of the Most High will overshadow you"...
Mary, then, is the new tabernacle. Through her perfect humility and faith, she became the Mother of God and the Mother “in the order of grace”. God, who cannot be contained by anything or anyone, came into the world through the tabernacle of Mary. “For the first time in the plan of salvation and because his Spirit had prepared her, the Father found the dwelling place where his Son and his Spirit could dwell among men” (CCC 721). David longed to build a temple but only God could build a house to dwell in, for our sake and for his glory.

The Year of Parish Revival began on the Solemnity of Corpus Christi, June 11, 2023 . As we have entered this new season of grace, Bishop Cozzens has composed a beautiful prayer for the Revival and the Church. We pray in particular for our beloved St Antoninus Church....
Prayer for the Eucharistic Revival of the Church
Lord Jesus Christ, you give us your flesh and blood for the life of the world, and you desire that all people come to the Supper of the Sacrifice of the Lamb.
Renew in your Church the truth, beauty, and goodness contained in the Most Blessed Eucharist.
Jesus living in the Eucharist, come and live in me.
Jesus healing in the Eucharist, come and heal me.
Jesus sacrificing yourself in the Eucharist, come and suffer in me.
Jesus rising in the Eucharist, come and rise to new life in me.
Jesus loving in the Eucharist, come and love in me.
Lord Jesus Christ, through the paschal mystery of your death and resurrection made present in every Holy Mass, pour out your healing love on your Church and on our world.
Grant that as we lift you up during this time of Eucharistic Revival, your Holy Spirit may draw all people to join us at this Banquet of Life. You live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit, God forever and ever.
Our Lady of Guadalupe, Mother of the Eucharist, Pray for us.
