Community Tree Initiative Returns this Spring - Now with 250 Trees!

The Community Tree Initiative is returning to Loyalist Township this spring, and it’s bigger than ever. Following strong community interest last year, the program is doubling in size, with 250 native trees available to Loyalist Township property owners in 2026. This initiative supports the ResiLienT Loyalist Township’s Climate Action Plan by expanding our local tree canopy, strengthening biodiversity, and building long-term neighbourhood resilience.

Tree sales will open online only on Wednesday, March 25, at 12:00 p.m. (noon) and will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, while quantities last. Trees will be offered at a subsidized rate of $25, with a limit of one tree per household, as in last year.

Residents will be able to choose from five native tree species, selected for local growing conditions and long-term benefits:

·        Autumn Blaze Maple

·        Serviceberry

·        Tulip Tree

·        Red Oak

·        White Spruce

Once sales are complete, Township staff will confirm totals with the supplier and organize a community tree pick-up day, planned for late April or early May. Pick-up details will be shared directly with successful participants. Last year’s pick-up took place at the County Road 6 Public Works Garage.

Residents are encouraged to sign up for the Community Tree Initiative email list to receive reminders, program updates, and full details ahead of the March sale. Mark your calendar for March 25 at noon and visit the Community Tree Initiative webpage to learn more and stay informed.

Earth Week 2026: Three Ways to Take Action in Loyalist Township

This Earth Week, residents across Loyalist Township are invited to take part in three community initiatives that make it easy to reduce waste, care for our shared spaces, and support one another.

E-Waste, Battery, Textile & Food Drive

Saturday, April 18 | 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at the Amherstview Fire Hall

Clean out your junk drawers and closets for a good cause! Residents are invited to responsibly drop off:

·        Electronic waste (e-waste)

·        Household batteries

·        Gently used clothing and textiles

·        Non-perishable food items

Textile donations will support the Loyalist Community Sharing Centre, and food donations will be collected in partnership with the Amherstview Lions Club to help local families in need. Township staff will be on site to assist with unloading and sorting.

Community Cleanup (Earth Week)

Sunday, April 19 – Saturday, April 25

Help keep Loyalist Township clean and beautiful by joining the Community Cleanup during Earth Week. Residents can choose a location that matters to them and clean up anytime during the week.

Free cleanup supplies (garbage bags and gloves) will be available at municipal pickup locations. Participants are encouraged to register in advance to help the Township plan and to be entered into a draw for a free community tree. High school students may also use their cleanup time toward volunteer hours.

Giveaway Day

Saturday, April 25 | 7:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Give items a second life during Giveaway Day! Residents can place gently used items at the curb with a clearly marked “FREE” sign, making it easy for others to reuse them instead of sending them to landfill. It’s a simple way to reduce waste and share within the community.

Together, these Earth Week activities offer meaningful ways to take climate action locally, whether you’re recycling, cleaning up, or passing something along to a neighbour.

More details, including registration links and accepted items, will be shared closer to Earth Week.
