Resident Educator Year 2 Monthly Update
September 2021
Thanks to all who attended the first RE Year 2 session. Be sure to mark your calendar now for your next session. The next RE Year 2 session will be on Wednesday, October 27 from 4:30-6:00pm via Zoom. The Zoom link for the meeting will be posted on the Google Site approximately 24 hours prior to the meeting, and you will receive an email as well.
What You Should Be Doing Now
Part I. Resident educators should be working collaboratively with their mentor on the requirements listed below:

  • Get to know your mentor and set up a schedule/routine to meet regularly

  • Determine a way to communicate with your mentor (Google Doc, email, etc.) when you have concerns or questions outside of your regular meeting times

  • Complete the Self Assessment Summary - using the Continuum for Teacher Development - and then reflecting on your summary with your mentor to help in determining your yearly goals for your Professional Growth Plan

  • Remember to use a form of the Collaborative Log to guide your conversations and document your progress each time you meet with your mentor

Part II: Utilize the following 8 questions to better REFLECT on your lessons. You can do this with your mentor or with yourself to become better at articulating your practice.

Rationale: What was the reason for doing this lesson? What objectives did you try to accomplish?

Students: What were the academic, social, physical, personal, and emotional needs of my students that I needed to consider?

Strategies: Which best practice teaching strategies did I use? Did they best facilitate my students' learning? Are there others that I would like to try next time?
Grouping: Did I group students? Heterogeneously or homogeneously? Why? What size were my groups?

Timing: When did I do this lesson? Beginning of unit, middle, or end? Were there prerequisites my students should have mastered? Would I move this to another place/section in the unit next time?
Materials: What materials and resources did I need for the lesson to be successful? Could I use other resources next time?
Success/Assess: Was the lesson successful? How did I assess my students? Were my students interested? Did my students learn? What does the assessment tell me? What didn't work? What will I do differently next time?
Sequence/Data Tool: How do I use assessment data to plan my next lesson? Overall and for individual students?
Homework for Next Session
Videotape or record a lesson and reflect with mentor or other colleagues. Discuss
how your goals are being addressed in the lesson. Document your progress, and have it for the next meeting.
