Pay It Forward Day
June 6th is "Pay It Forward Day" in Bloomingdale. The aim of Pay It Forward" is to encourage community spirit through intentional acts of kindness, and to be a positive influence on everyone we, as individuals, come into contact with. It encourages people to do good deeds for others without asking for anything in return, except for the recipients to "Pay It Forward" to others.

This annual movement was established in Bloomingdale in 2014, inspired by Summer White Lynch, a Bloomingdale resident who only had a few days to live, and yet remained positive, influential, and encouraging to so many. The story told in 2014 of Summer's loving and generous spirit and the movement in Bloomingdale that grew from it, went international through the internet, creating acts of kindness well beyond what it was hoped for.

Residents are encouraged to carry on the legacy of a brave woman by creating positive change in our community and world-one deed at a time!
Mariano's Bloomingdale Receives Award

Mariano’s is dedicated to supporting initiatives that create communities free of hunger and waste; specifically, they are part of Kroger's Zero Hunger | Zero Waste Foundation. Among all Mariano's stores, the Bloomingdale location had the highest percentage of product donations scanned out, resulting in a remarkable contribution of nearly 19,500 pounds of food. This amount of food translates to approximately 13,000 meals for those facing hunger in our local community.

On May 26, Mariano's Bloomingdale celebrated this outstanding achievement, by hosting an award celebration, during which representatives from Roselle Food Pantry were presented with a $2,000 grant on behalf of the entire store team.

Mayor Franco spoke at the event and congratulated our Bloomingdale Mariano’s on this successful endeavor. Village Administrator Peter Scalera and Director of Community and Economic Development Sean Gascoigne were also present to celebrate the accomplishment with Mariano’s senior leadership as well as the Store Director, staff and associates.

We are proud of Bloomingdale Mariano’s for making this substantial impact!
Hydrant Flushing Begins June 12

The Public Works department will perform the annual Hydrant Flushing Program beginning June 12, 2023 through June 27, 2023. The Program will be performed during the daytime hours of 8:00 am-3:00 pm. Please DO NOT WASH LAUNDRY during the flushing hours, as rust staining of clothing may result. Residents with water softeners are encouraged to check the cycle time of their softeners so that the unit does not regenerate during this period.

Hydrant flushing is routine maintenance that:
  • Improves water quality - Flushing removes minerals such as iron and magnesium that collect in the water mains.
  • Improves water flow - By removing these minerals, the inside diameter of a water main is increased, allowing a better flow of water.
  • Hydrant maintenance - A fire hydrant is a mechanical device. Operation of a hydrant lubricates internal mechanisms and gaskets.
  • Hydrant inspections - Any deficiencies are noted and repaired as necessary to insure that each hydrant will perform when needed for an emergency.

Questions? Please contact the Public Works – Distribution Division at 630-671-5800.
