Campus Living Tip of the Week

Fire Safety

As you prepare to embark on a well-deserved winter break, we want to remind you to prioritize fire safety before leaving the halls. Please follow the steps below to ensure we are all fire safety compliant! By taking these simple precautions, you contribute to a safe residence hall environment.

  • Unplug and remove all string lights.
  • Replace all extension cords with UL listed surge protectors. Do not plug one surge protector into another, and do not overload each surge protector.
  • Plug large appliances such as mini fridges, microwaves, etc. directly into wall outlet, NOT into the UL listed surge protector.
  • Remove all prohibited items such as candles, incense, and other prohibited items with heating elements. Refer to Student Handbook page 64 for more example items.
  • Remove all items from the walls, ceilings, and windows. This includes posters, tapestries, photos, wallpaper, etc.
  • Ensure nothing is hanging from or covering the fire sprinklers, smoke detectors, or ceiling lights.

Don't forget to fill out the Fall Departure Confirmation Form!

All residential students received an email last week with a link to complete the Fall Departure Confirmation Form. Please make sure to click the link only after you have completed the closing checklist and are ready to depart from campus.

If the link in your email doesn't work or doesn't log you in automatically, you can access the Fall Departure Form via the Housing Portal, after logging in with your SSO.
