Happy Halloween!

We hope you’re having a spooktacular Halloween and enjoyed decorating your spaces with pumpkins! As the holiday season winds down, it's important that we all do our part in maintaining a clean and safe living environment.

We kindly ask that you please remember to properly dispose of your pumpkins by end of day on Wednesday, November 1. Here are a few guidelines to ensure a smooth and eco-friendly cleanup:

Composting: If you have access to composting, please consider composting your pumpkins.

Dumpsters: If composting is not an option, please place your pumpkins in designated dumpsters next to or near your hall. Ensure they are empty and free from any non-organic materials, like candles or decorations. Please do not throw pumpkins away in the small trash cans next to your hall.

Thank you for your cooperation and if you have any questions or need assistance with pumpkin disposal, please don't hesitate to reach out to the Housing or Residential Experience team.

Wishing you a wonderful autumn season and looking forward to your cooperation in keeping our campus and residence halls clean.

On Campus Living Tip of the Week

Serenity Speaks: Respect the Quiet Hours

  1. Academic Success. Many residents use quiet hours to study and complete assignments. Excessive noise can be disruptive and hinder academic performance.
  2. Restful Sleep. Noise during quiet hours can prevent your neighbors from getting a good night's sleep, which is essential for overall health and well-being.
  3. Respect for Others. Respecting quiet hours demonstrates consideration for the well-being and comfort of your neighbors and roommates.

Have a concern about neighbors not respecting quiet hours? Make sure to knock on their door and share your concerns. Your RA is also available to assist you after you make that first contact!

Keep Your Space Clean: Don't Forget to Take Out Your Room Trash!

It's a simple task that makes a big difference in maintaining a comfortable and healthy environment.

Here are a few tips to make it easier:

  1. Set a Schedule: Designate a specific day and time each week for trash removal. This way, you won't forget, and it becomes a part of your routine.
  2. Use a Trash Can Liner: Make sure you use a liner in your trash can to prevent spills and make it easier to dispose of the garbage.
  3. Recycle: Separate recyclables from regular waste and use recycling bins if provided. This helps reduce waste and benefits the environment.
  4. Seal the Bag: Before taking it out, be sure to tie the trash bag tightly to prevent any leaks.

Important Reminder: Keep Window Screens On Windows!

Window screens serve several purposes, and it's crucial that we all do our part to ensure they remain in place:

  1. Safety: Window screens act as a barrier, preventing accidents and keeping pests out. They are especially important on higher floors to avoid any potential falls.
  2. Fresh Air: Screens allow you to open your windows to let in fresh air without worrying about insects or debris coming in.
  3. Energy Efficiency: Keeping screens on windows helps maintain a more consistent indoor temperature, which can be more energy-efficient.

If your window screen is missing, make sure to submit a work order! Failure to have a window screen on your window, may result in a damage fine.

Residence Hall Spotlight: De La Salle

Center Hall on the 1928 plans and Ranger during the Preflight period, the (previously) senior dorm was named for Saint John Baptist de La Salle (1651-1719), the French priest who founded the Christian Brothers and was named Patron of all Teachers by Pius xii in 1950.

On the ground floor were once many of the student services: a barber shop presided over by Jack, complete with chairs and pole, the CO-OP (bookstore and snack bar), billiard room (later the TV room in the 50s and 60s), the dean’s office and in the northeast corner the ASSMC offices (during the 50s and 60s).

In the middle the grand lounge (now known as Hagerty), with French windows and a large fireplace, was used for recreation, formal and informal gatherings, lectures and concerts.
