Borough's first School Street set to continue with local support

The Royal Borough’s first School Street, at Wessex Primary School, is set to continue following local support for a number plate recognition camera to help manage traffic.

A School Street allows families to walk, wheel, cycle, or scoot in safety by only letting permitted vehicles outside the school gates at pick up and drop off times. This not only benefits their health but also the surrounding environment.

With volunteer stewards currently helping the School Street to run, there is a call for more volunteers to support the scheme, ahead of the new camera being installed in the spring thanks to funding from Active Travel.

We’re asking for your feedback to help shape how ground maintenance takes place across the borough.

We’re preparing to update the contract that relates to how we look after parks and open spaces, including grass cutting and managing weeds, cemeteries and burial grounds and alongside shrub beds and some hedges on highway verges.
