Weekly bin collections update

Weekly household waste and recycling collections will resume from Monday 17 August.

We have taken this opportunity to review collection routes to make them more efficient and environmentally friendly.

For some residents, this means that your bin collection day will change. All residents will receive a letter with further information and confirmation of whether or not your collection day is changing, prior to Monday 17 August. For the majority of residents, there will be no change to your bin collection day, however the time of your collection may be different, so please ensure your bin is out by 7am.

Once weekly collections resume, we will not be collecting excess waste or recycling on collection day and all your rubbish should be in your bin before the crews arrive.

Major works at Elizabeth Bridge and Royal Windsor Way

Volker Highways on behalf of the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead are carrying out essential major repairs to the Elizabeth Bridge and the A332 Royal Windsor Way. The work is necessary due to the severe corrosion of the bridge.

In order to complete the project safely and efficiently, there will be significant lane and some full road closures which will potentially impact road users. Road closures starting the week after next are:
  • Monday 17 August to Wednesday 19 August 2020 - northbound and southbound full closure 10pm to 6am. The road will be closed to all traffic in both directions.
  • Monday 17 August to Thursday 12 November 2020 - northbound and southbound permanent lane closures - on both north and southbound carriageways.

Community Governance Review - Windsor Town Council

The Royal Borough has launched a new community governance review which will examine whether a new town council for Windsor should be created.

The community governance review will examine whether a new town council should be formed in the parts of Windsor which do not currently belong to a parish council. This area spans five of the Borough’s wards and is mainly concerned with the Windsor town centre area but also covers the areas of Clewer and Dedworth.

We want to hear what residents, local organisations, community groups, and anyone else who may have an interest in the review thinks about the proposal. We will then take these views into account when making a decision about whether the creation of a new town council would be the best outcome for residents.

The review will take place over the course of a year, starting with the consultation on the terms of reference which are on our website. Anyone wishing to submit their thoughts and comments to be considered as part of the first stage of public consultation should send their comments to Electoral Services by Wednesday 28 October 2020. The next stage will be a public consultation at which time you can share your views on our draft recommendations.

If you have any queries about the review, please contact Electoral Services at [email protected] or call 01628 683868. Please see further details here.
Garden waste collections

We are making changes to garden waste collections to make them more efficient and environmentally friendly.

From 17 August, garden waste will be collected in the same vehicle as recycling waste. The vehicle is split-backed so the waste goes into separate compartments. This means that for some garden waste subscribers, your collection week will change. If this is the case, you will receive a letter with details of the changes before 17 August.

Business grant scheme reopened

At the beginning of May, the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy announced a Local Authority Discretionary Grant Fund for local authorities to support businesses impacted by COVID-19 in their area. The fund was aimed at small businesses who weren’t eligible for the Small Business Grant Fund or the Retail, Leisure and Hospitality Fund.

In June this year we invited applications from qualifying businesses in the borough for the grant. We received almost 200 applications from local businesses but fewer than half the applications met the eligibility criteria and so we have approximately £800k of the fund remaining.

We are therefore re-opening applications for the Local Authority Discretionary Grant Fund on Monday 10 August 2020. Applications will be assessed for eligibility and allocated on a ‘first-come, first-served’ basis until all the funding has been awarded. The scheme has to close by 28 August 2020 but will close before if the funds are utilised.

Full details of the eligibility criteria will be made available online and we ask that only businesses that met the eligibility criteria should apply. You can apply online via the council website from Monday 10 August 2020. Previous applicants need not apply, businesses wishing to be considered should fully complete the online application as soon as possible and ensure the required supporting evidence is provided.
Reminder about M4 closures

There are slip road closures this weekend from approximately 8pm this evening until Monday morning, 10 August:

  • Junction 12 – the eastbound entry slip road will also be closed for construction work. The M4 eastbound and westbound carriageways will be unaffected by these closures.

There are weekend closures (in both directions unless otherwise noted) on a regular basis throughout the year and the schedule for this summer is as follows:
