80 years of Victory in Europe

On Thursday, to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day, the Mayor of Windsor & Maidenhead, Cllr Simon Bond, attended a service at St John the Baptist Parish Church as residents observed a two-minute silence to commemorate 80 years of Victory in Europe and to honour those who fought for our freedom.

The historic anniversary, commemorating the end of World War II in Europe in 1945, saw street parties and celebrations across the country.

Residents in the Royal Borough celebrated with street parties, where communities gathered together for food, music and games. This picture is from Cookham's street party, which even featured a 40s themed music performance.
