Chair report

We presume most, if not all, readers are now aware of the change in structure and composition of the Board that occurred recently due to Gary’s illness.

In brief, I have accepted the role of Chair with Gary remaining on the Board as director. We also welcome Wilfred Finn as a new director. Statements from Gary and myself in relation to the change can be read on the News section of the Mulloon website.

Mulloon Rehydration Conference 2024

Our 2024 conference will showcase the United Nations-recognised work of Mulloon Institute and our partners driving nature repair by harnessing that most crucial part of our planet's life-support system: water.

We will present the scientific findings of the Mulloon Rehydration Initiative (MRI), our innovative capacity building program, and our regulatory reform agenda.

Panel discussions will dive into landholder experiences, whole-of-system solutions, the puzzle of financing landscape-scale restoration and our work across Australia. Then, join us for an evening of networking, drinks, and dinner, where you can connect with like-minded professionals and expand your circle over great food and conversation!

National Banksia Sustainability Awards FINALIST!

Exciting news! Mulloon Institute has been named a finalist for the Nature Positive Award at the 2024 National Banksia Sustainability Awards.

Communities of Practice Project

Science updates

Launch of our new Water Cycle poster

We celebrated World Wetlands Day on 2 February with the launch of a vibrant new water cycle poster. Painted by gifted artist Kim Williams, and designed by Kim with Mulloon’s Dr Laura Fisher, it’s an imaginative take on foundational principles that are more important than ever. It’s art, it’s science, it’s a celebration of our power to heal our environments – it'll brighten your world! Posters are available for purchase via link in the story.

Science & Monitoring update

Valuable data was captured on the Mulloon floodplain following the Boxing Day flood event. We also hosted an enthusiastic team from University of Sydney.

Beautiful new animation series

The Mulloon team took a well-earned break over the holiday period to recharge batteries and upskill in new technology.

Western Australia

Lance Mudgway recently visited the Gabby Quoi Quoi catchment south of Wongan Hill in the Wheatbelt of WA to engage with local landholders and begin planning on recommendations to address the root causes of salination in the catchment..

New South Wales

Mulloon Consulting’s Jack Smart and Max Brunswick recently completed construction of works at Cadfor near Binda in the NSW Southern Tablelands in early March 2024.

Autumn update

Summer has produced a mixed bag for Mulloon Creek Natural Farms, with major flooding followed by favourable growing conditions.

Find an event near you

The change in Board provides an opportunity for the new Board to review, reset and rethink as we build on our solid foundations. It’s always good to periodically test your assumptions, challenge your methods and be creative in considering new strategies (as long as you don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater). In my experience, an energised, informed, collaborative group (with a balance of optimism and scepticism) makes better decisions overall than individuals.
