I first met The Hon. Gary Nairn AO and his wife Rose when I first visited the Mulloon homestead with my family in the 2019 Easter school holidays. There was six of us (and a dog) in a Honda Odyssey heading south as part of an Easter holiday trip from Sydney to Melbourne.

As we welcome the summer season we bid a very fond farewell to our late chairman The Hon. Gary Nairn AO. It was with sadness but also the deepest gratitude that Mulloon Institute hosted the State Memorial that provided a fitting farewell to a man held in such high regard by so many.

Due to popular request from many who were unable to travel for this event, we share memories and resources from the State Memorial Service for our late Chairman, The Hon Gary Nairn AO that was held at Home Farm on 22 November 2024.

Vitasoy joins forces with Mulloon Institute for Australia’s largest ever landscape restoration project

Back in 2021 we partnered with Vitasoy who support us to strengthen the resilience of Australian landscapes. Together, under this new campaign thoughout November, we have brought new life to millions of hectares of farmland in the country’s largest ever restoration project.

Mulloon hosts Australian Premiere Film

Mulloon Institute was thrilled to be presenting the Australian premiere of Hummingbird Films' Regenerating Life, a film by John Feldman.

Art + Ecology + Games + Farming + Culture + Country

A remarkable day was had early November when nine artists, performers and game designers joined 20 members of the Mulloon team for a Creative Residency.

New Alliances: Putting Country First

This event marked the launch of an exciting new initiative—the First Nations Water Stewardship Skills Certificate, a 3-year project that will see Mulloon Institute and Wiradjuri, Yuin and Gumbaynggirr custodians co-design an on-Country curriculum dedicated to water stewardship.

New community connections

Peter and Laura attended a special event in Bellingen hosted by Ciaron Dunn from the Coffs Aboriginal Land Council. The Gumbaynggir Good Koala Country Knowledge Exchange was a series of gatherings aimed at aligning river health and connectivity with effective communication.

Designing landscapes that sparkle!

A glittering interactive diorama to highlight transpiration cycles, and a magnetised landscape kit with felt, crochet and laser-cut timber components. These are the creations of some very imaginative ANU Design Studio students.

Exploring the Factors Affecting Farm Modernisation

Mulloon are pleased to support this research invitation from the Fenner School at ANU to participate in a survey gathering insights from farm managers on modernisation practices in NSW. Survey open until 5 December.

Gary Nairn spoke of a vision of an Australian continent that was rehydrated and repaired. He spoke of the significant contribution Australia could make to combat climate change if we were able to rehydrate our great, dry continent. Australia’s soils are 50% more dehydrated than before Europeans arrived. If we can return our continent to it’s former glory, we will make a significant contribution to repairing our planet. Now wouldn't that be a legacy.
