NEWS

Coming Alongside Hope Resilience Fund surpasses match

We did it – because of you.

Your compassion. Your generosity. Your willingness to act.

Together, we met our $250,000 goal for the Resilience Fund. And because of that, every dollar was matched. That means $500,000 is now on its way to communities across East Africa, bringing hope where it’s urgently needed.

Coming Alongside Hope with Light campaign brings solar suitcases to off-grid clinics

It’s no secret, babies don’t check the clock when it’s time to be born. Day or night, birth happens. But in off-grid communities in Mozambique and Madagascar, nighttime deliveries can be incredibly risky. Without electricity, many women won’t even attempt the journey to a clinic after dark.

That’s where you – and a bright yellow Solar Suitcase – come in.

Youth ministry leader moves to director role

After seven years guiding youth engagement at Alongside Hope, Su McLeod is stepping into a new role as Director of Supporter Relations. She’s helped build strong connections with Indigenous communities, supported national youth programs, and brought heart and leadership to everything she’s done.

An indestructible energy making for love: Why one Alberta donor joined the work of Alongside Hope

When Michael Rothery first read about the impact of U.S. policy changes on refugees, he was at home in rural Alberta, feeling helpless – but not for long. A Lenten prayer service and a heartfelt email from Alongside Hope stirred something deeper, leading him and his wife Leslie to act.

Supporting Métis People to reclaim their roots

For many Métis people in B.C.’s South Okanagan, reclaiming identity is about more than ancestry - it’s about justice, healing, and belonging. With support from Alongside Hope, the South Okanagan Similkameen Métis Association is helping individuals trace their roots and successfully apply for Métis citizenship.

EVENTS

Join the Becoming Kin Book Study!

This fall, join Alongside Hope for a six-part online book study as part of our 2025 learning journey, Living Into Right Relationships. We’ll be reading Becoming Kin by Patty Krawec, an Indigenous writer who invites us to reimagine kinship, land, and solidarity through the lens of history, memory, and Indigenous ways of knowing. The book is available at libraries, bookstores, and on Audible.ca.

Watch our Wild Ride launch from General Synod and learn more about the Solar Suitcase.

Get Ready for the 2025 Wild Ride

Celebrate the light of the summer sun and support safe births in Mozambique and Madagascar. You are invited to join Alongside Hope for the fourth annual Wild Ride, launching June 20 (the Summer Solstice and longest day of the year) and ending on October 4 (the end of the Season of Creation).

Join others across the country as we walk, cycle, roller blade, bake, read, knit, swim, kayak, canoe, dance and sing – or pretty much any activity you would like to undertake. Join the Wild Ride and be a light for change!

Need some Wild Ride one-on-one time?

Check in with our Volunteer Coordinator, Kim Umbach, on Tuesday, July 8th from 7:00 - 8:30p.m. ET. No need to register ahead of time, just go to the Zoom link below and pop in to ask Kim your questions! Additional “office hours” will be announced.
