2020 in Review
Although 2020 brought unprecedented challenges, PRS demonstrated strength, resiliency, and hope.

Here's a snapshot of PRS' 2020 year in review:
January
  • PRS CrisisLink earns the highest level of accreditation from the International Council for Helplines, which evaluates call center policies, processes and standards of care.

February 
  • PRS is featured in the Fairfax County Times for its stance on 9-8-8 as a nationwide mental health hotline number and its impact on local call centers such as PRS CrisisLink.

March

April
  • PRS celebrates Volunteer Appreciation Month and honors the volunteers that make a difference at PRS throughout the year with a virtual happy hour and a Volunteer Appreciation video.
  • PRS releases ‘We are Here. We have Hope” video to show our community how PRS is adjusting to remote operations, continuing services to all persons served, community members in need and maintaining hope.

July
  • Former PRS Chief Operating Officer of 15 years, Joseph Getch, becomes New CEO of PRS, on July 1, 2020.
  • PRS expands its long-standing partnership with Arlington County’s Job Avenue, a program that helps adults with mental health challenges find and maintain employment of their choice. 

August
  • Community supporters create stress relief kits for PRS staff and volunteers working the front lines to provide behavioral health, crisis intervention and suicide prevention services during the pandemic.

September
  • PRS honors Suicide Prevention and Awareness Month through an online social media campaign aimed to spread awareness of suicide prevention and resources available in our community.
  • In partnership with Arlington County, PRS expands its peer services by adding Peer Support Specialists to Arlington’s Mental Health Outpatient and Emergency Services Teams.

November
  • Annual Staff Appreciation Day is held virtually, celebrating PRS’ invaluable staff and their outstanding accomplishments over the past year.
  • PRS’ Recovery Academies engage volunteers and staff to provide new, diverse, fun, and informative virtual classes for individuals served in PRS’ Recovery Academies.

December
  • Our community supporters spread holiday cheer to PRS staff and volunteers working the front lines during the pandemic by creating encouraging holiday cards and sending stress relief and self-care supplies. 
  • PRS prepares for the launch of Family Peer Support Partner (FPSP) services in January 2021. The role of the FPSP is to work directly with families who have a child or young adult living with mental illness, to help them navigate the continuum of available services.  
PRS would like to wish happy holidays to the incredible volunteers that support PRS throughout the year.

Although the year posed new challenges, our volunteers remained committed to serving PRS and the individuals in need in our community.
We are grateful for our volunteers and their unwavering partnership in this work, and we look forward to continuing to transform lives in our community in 2021!
