6 Things to Know

A Year of Growth and Impact

What's new: We are thrilled to share the 2025 Summary Report of the incredible work our 19 regional coalitions are doing to reduce mental health stigma, prevent and heal childhood adversity, emphasize trauma-informed awareness and care, and promote resilience in children and their families.

Go deeper: Check out Resilient Georgia's new Regional Coalition Website to learn more about the coalitions!

Welcome 3 New Coalition Members

What's new: Welcome to Resilient West Central Georgia, Resilient Communities of Marshland Georgia, and our newest addition, Resilient South Central Georgia.

Why it matters: Through shared commitment and coordinated care, these three new coalitions are helping ensure families across these regions have expanded access to the support, education, and resources they need to thrive.

Building Grant-Ready Organizations

What's new: “Building Grant-Ready Organizations Through Trauma- and Resilience-Informed Practices” explores why grant readiness extends beyond strong financial controls or well-defined strategic plans. It’s also a reflection of an organization’s overall well-being.

According to author Dr. Teresa Retz, founder of the Transcend Advisory Group, resilience should be viewed as a cornerstone of organizational health, essential for sustaining impact and long-term success.

The Day My Heart Spoke

What's new: We’re proud to share, “The Day My Heart Spoke: A Journey from Burnout to Healing.”

In this deeply personal story in our Power of Healing blog series, Dr. Shannon Hervey, Director of Community Health for the Gwinnett Coalition, shares how burnout led to a life-altering diagnosis. And how choosing to heal became the most powerful act of resilience.

Bottom line: If you’ve ever felt like your workload, identity, or stress have become too much, this one’s for you.

2025 PACES Report Card

What's new: Every year, the PACES Report Card provides a snapshot of how Georgia’s children and families are doing—tracking both Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) that increase the risk of poor outcomes, and Positive and Adverse Childhood Experiences (PCEs) that help buffer against them.

Why it matters: Resilient Georgia partnered with the Essentials for Childhood: Preventing Adverse Childhood Experiences Through Data to Action - an initiative led by the Georgia Department of Public Health and the Emory Injury Prevention Research Center - to provide data and sources for information in the PACES Report Card.

Bottom line: This year’s findings remind us that while progress is being made in some areas, continued investment in prevention, connection, and equitable access to care remains essential to building a resilient Georgia.

Thank You, Cancer: A Story of Breaking Down and Breaking Through

What's new: In the final blog of our Power of Healing Series, Kayleigh Heard shares her rare cancer diagnosis and how it transformed her understanding of resilience, body acceptance, and self-advocacy. After years of dismissed symptoms, traumatic treatment, and life-altering decisions, she finds strength in vulnerability and gratitude for the body that kept her alive.

Why it matters: Her journey highlights how facing mortality can rebuild life with authenticity and courage. ️

Closing thought: Thank you to Kayleigh and all our Power of Healing blog authors who bravely shared their inspiring stories of healing and recovery and resilience with us this year! ❤️

What's Happening at Resilient Georgia

Our 2025 highlights

Emily Anne loved spending time with our team, so many regional partners and the health policy center in Macon earlier this year for our learning days. Bonus was we were hosted by Habitat for Humanity, and we got to look around the ReStore on breaks!

Alex enjoyed being part of events that reminded me why I love this work — from strategic planning days with our regional partners to attending the PART workshop and deepening my own understanding of self-care. I was especially grateful to witness youth in my own community get excited about mental health and resiliency through our partners at Hope Givers.

Nikki ran two half marathons, got accepted into Leadership Savannah’s 2026 cohort, presented at the Georgia Public Defenders Council Social Work Conference, and led trauma-sensitive yoga at the Social Connection Conference. I’m especially proud of the coalitions who presented at the 2025 Regional Showcases, and I'm excited to have launched four more regional coalitions in 2025.

Kathryn was inspired by our team's conversation with former Mayor Shirley Franklin this fall. I left energized by her stories and deeply grateful for every chance our team has to learn and grow together. I'm looking forward to suprising my three children and heading to Disney World to ring in 2026!

Audrey enjoyed work adventures that took me from North to South GA. We launched four (!) brand-new coalitions, hosted three strategic planning days, and collaborated with incredible partners at DPH and IPRCE to develop the Georgia PACEs Report Card — helping to spotlight data that will drive meaningful action statewide. I squeezed in some much-needed family time in the Philippines, and I earned elite status in local travel after logging hundreds of miles driving kids to soccer.

Annaliza  joined the team in March of 2025 and has enjoyed learning more about each coalition's work during the General Meetings and Strategic Planning days. I look forward to learning more in the coming year!

Andrea enjoyed hosting the NMHWAC (National Mental Health Workforce Accelerator Collaborative) participants for lunch and participating in Leadership Macon 2025. Highlights this year also included watching my daughter cheer, celebrating my son’s graduation from speech and ABA therapy, and spending time with my husband and four children at our favorite beach, St. George Island.

A Closing Note of Gratitude

As we wrap up this season of giving, we’re grateful for the opportunity to volunteer with Hands On Thomas County, a nonprofit that connects community members with meaningful service opportunities throughout the county.

We were proud to lend our time and energy to support their impactful work—strengthening our community, uplifting local organizations, and helping neighbors in need this holiday season!

“You are your best thing."
