BLACK BUSINESSES IN TACOMA ARE STRONG AND RESILIENT AND HAVE REASON FOR HOPE
the Census Bureau's updated data about Black business formation in the United State shows a 12% growth rate since 2017. In addition progressive state public policy pronouncements, including Governor Inslee's executive order that restores new life to Affirmative Action will bring material improvement for Black businesses. Moreover, The evidence of resiliency is supported by community intervention efforts led by non-profit organizations like the Tacoma Urban League, Tacoma-Pierce County Chamber of Commerce and the Tacoma-Pierce County Black Collective.

PLAN TO BUILD PRIVATE 5G NETWORK 'BUBBLE' ACROSS TACOMA TIDEFLATS MOVES FORWARD
The implementation of a private 5G network would establish the infrastructure for those working in the Tideflats today to utilize the technology they’re envisioning for the next decade and beyond. A common theme of interest among stakeholders was increased efficiency of port operations as well as Improving safety across the Tideflats.
5G network could also pave the way for a sustainable future, including implementation of electric charging stations, smart buildings sharing energy, air and water quality testing and reporting, wildlife and sea life monitoring and less idling of vehicles and vessels.

CHAMBER AMBASSADORS OF THE MONTH
The Ambassadors Club is the volunteer arm of the Chamber. Ambassadors welcome new members and cultivate relationships with existing ones, answering questions, attending functions, and helping businesses and organizations get the most out of their Chamber memberships. Our Ambassadors are typically the first faces you’ll see at any of our Chamber events. The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act presents a historic opportunity for the over 8 million minority-owned business in the U.S. to play a key role in rebuilding America’s infrastructure. 
  • The Act codifies the Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA) – creating an Under Secretary position and increasing its funding and reach.
  • Expands the geographic reach and scope of MBDA and creates regional MBDA offices and rural business centers.
  • MBDA will play a lead role in ensuring the participation of minority-owned businesses in infrastructure projects.
