Resilient Columbus is a task force of local leaders who address the issues of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and build resiliency in Columbus County. Our mission is to promote resilience in Columbus County through the education and engagement of community members regarding the life-long impacts of adverse childhood experiences.

The Resilient Columbus Steering Committee meets every first Wednesday via zoom at 2:00 pm.

The Resilient Columbus Coalition meets every fourth Tuesday via zoom at 10:00 am.
On October 26, 2021 Chandra Green was our featured speaker from Rural Opportunity Institute. She gave an overview of ROI's services and resources.

We discussed the importance of self-help and how we each individually achieve this goal.

Focus was on the Resiliency Skill, Sense-In. Sense-In means paying attention to sensations or physical feelings in the body. It is the core resiliency tool and is used with every other tool. Sense-In is the way we talk to our safety and threat management system so that the other tools can work.

Resilience Film to be Streamed
The Resilient Columbus coalition in conjunction with Columbus County Partnership of Children (Smart Start) is partnering with the local faith community to sponsor a screening of the film, Resilience: The Biology of Stress and The Science of Hope. The documentary can be viewed via streaming on November 18, at 10 am. Individuals wishing to view the presentation should contact Jai Robinson to receive the streaming link and password.

Through many clinical studies and research, we have learned that child or adult behaviors aren’t always about what is wrong with someone, but more about what has happened to that person. Columbus County has an opportunity to see how the effects of childhood trauma can impact an individual for the rest of his or her life.

The Resilient Columbus Coalition is a collaboration of several community service agencies, faith leaders and individuals to address issues related to childhood and adult traumatic experiences. Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) are potentially traumatic events that occur between birth and 17 years of age and are linked to chronic health problems, mental illness, and substance abuse and misuse problems in adulthood. ACEs can also negatively impact education, job opportunities, and earning potential. Fortunately, ACEs can be addressed and prevented through Resiliency. Resilience is the process of adapting well in the face of adversity, trauma, tragedy, or significant sources of stress.

The landmark Kaiser Permanente ACEs Study is highlighted in the film, along with Dr. Nadine Burke Harris, Surgeon General of California. You don’t want to miss this opportunity to participate in the movement to transform Columbus County into a trauma-informed and resilient community.

Columbus County Department of Social Services
Resilient Columbus will partner with Columbus County Department of Social Services and complete an Informational Session with the leaders and supervisors on November 16, 2021 at 9:00 am. We will follow-up the session with a film screening for the staff. It is our goal that by training the staff, they will become more trauma informed when providing services to their customers.
