Money's impact on relationships, lifestyles, and choices.

Members of helping professions often encounter sensitive situations where it's hard to know what to say. In this issue, we explore what it's like to be on the receiving, and the giving end of well-meaning, but not helpful, responses. If we can learn to be comfortable with being uncomfortable, we can often do a much better job.

Next month is Independence Day, but also Independents Week, celebrating small business. Read more about it below.

Coming up in August, a 4-session "Money and Soul" virtual workshop. We will be using Karen Ramsey's book, Caring For Your Soul In Matters of Money. Tuition for the workshop includes a copy of the book.  See more info at the bottom of this e-letter.

Thanks for your responses to this e-letter, likes and shares on Facebook and LinkedIn, reviews on Amazon, and retweets on Twitter.  They continue to let us know what's working for you. Thanks for reading!

Yours truly,

Celebrating Independence and Independents

Everyone knows the 4th of July marks Independence Day, but did you know the whole week marks Independents Week? Independent, as in, independent businesses.

The American Independent Business Alliance ( AMIBA) urges everyone to focus on buying from local, independent businesses during the week-long celebration of small businesses. Economic studies show that communities with more independent businesses keep 3 times as many dollars in the community. The percentage of businesses that are local is also directly correlated with positive measures of a community's economic health and vitality.

Think about the places you've enjoyed visiting, living, and working. Were they filled with big box chains, or thriving small shops? Independent businesses make a community's personality.

See if you can go a whole week - Independents Week - only spending at local business. Let us know how it goes.
