2026 Winter Olympics - Inspiring Stories from Mexican Athletes
You hear the stories about the gold medal favorites like "Quad God" skater Ilia Malinin, but some of the most inspiring stories are about the athletes who have to go to extraordinary lengths just to train when there’s no winter weather, world-class ice rinks, or snow-covered mountains. We’d like to highlight a couple athletes from Mexico who overcame this adversity, and give them their "moment in the sun":
Donovan Carrillo: From Shopping Malls to Center Ice in Milan
The only Mexican on ice at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan and the only Mexican EVER to reach the Men’s Singles Final, Donovan trained at shopping malls before relocating to Toronto where he could train in a professional rink. He has inspired the younger generation to put on ice skates and pursue what once seemed like an insurmountable dream of making it to the Winter Olympics.

Regina Martinez Lorenzo: Mexico’s First Female X-Country Skier
Talk about ambition. Not only did Regina decide to climb the mountain of learning how to ski, but she also went to medical school and is now an ER doctor in Miami.
