ODHS Staff Spotlight!
Meet Your Resource Family Recruitment & Retention Champion, Bonnie Ell!
What is your role at ODHS and how long have you been with the Agency?

I am new to the Agency ~ I came on board in July of 2022. I am the Resource Family Recruitment & Retention Champion for D7 (Coos & Curry). Here is a fun video that provides an overview of my role. :)

Tell us a little bit about yourself...

This year my husband and I will celebrate our 15th anniversary. We have two awesome kiddos, 6 & 9 years old. We love adventuring in the outdoors together ~ on the ocean, rivers and coastal trails. I am originally from Montana, but but have lived in Brookings (where my husband grew up) since 2010.

My personality type is to be a helper and I have spent my career in fields that have allowed me to do that. I've worked for over 15 years in community engagement and mobilization roles~ 11 years with the American Cancer Society and then 4 years with Advanced Health and UWSWO, which opened the door to my work with Every Child Curry.

I had the opportunity to help bring Every Child to Curry County, where I served as the Director/Co-Director for 3 years, helping to support children and famlies in our local foster system, while also serving as a CASA for several years. I am a person of faith and trust that I am in this new role for a reason and will do my best to help support the families we serve and recruit new families who will open their homes and hearts to the children and youth in our care.

What are your hobbies?
~ Paddle boarding, mountain biking, yoga, hiking, boot camp class (5:30 am!), cooking and reading

What is your favorite food?
~ Thai, Mexican, Pizza and the fish we catch!

Why do you work for Childwelfare?

I have a heart for people in general and want to do what I can to help ensure that children are safe and loved, that children and families can be supported in ways that will help break generational cycles of abuse and neglect, and to bring awareness and mobilize our communities to get involved in the childwelfare crisis.
