June is Men's Health Awareness Month, the goal of which is to heighten awareness of preventable health problems and encourage early detection and treatment of disease among men and boys. Parents and caregivers of CYSHCN often set aside their own health and other needs to care for their CYSHCN and family. Check out this guide (for men and women) to see a schedule of checkups and age appropriate screenings.
Listening to the Voice of Fathers
The voice of fathers is often overshadowed by mothers or diminished when lumped in with term like "parents" or "caregivers," but the experience, power, and role of fathers in the care and advocacy for CYHSCN - and their need for support - cannot be ignored.
Family Voices is a national organization and grassroots network of families and friends of children and youth with special health care needs and disabilities. We promotepartnership with families--including those of cultural, linguistic and geographic diversity--in order to improve healthcare services and policies for children.
