Occupational Safety and Health Week
This year, the North American Occupational Safety and Health Week is celebrated from May 3 - 9.

The goal during Safety and Health Week is to focus employers, employees, partners and the public on the importance of preventing injury and illness in the workplace, at home, and in the community.

With the pandemic changing the business environment, our governments are focusing their celebrations on mental health and COVID-19 best practices awareness.
Governmen t of Canada
The Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS) provided online resources for organizations to participate in Safety and Health Week to promote wellness in their workplaces, including:

  • Listen to podcasts from the collection of topics ranging from work-related stress, ergonomics, repetitive strain injury prevention, and mental health.
  • Take CCOHS’ free online courses on mental health themes such as how to have courageous conversations, build resiliency, and promote well-being, as well as courses on office ergonomics and pandemic planning.
  • Promote important health and safety messages by downloading Safety and Health Week branded posters and shareable social media cards.

Government of Ontario
Last week, the provincial government announced the strategies for lifting restrictions in the Framework for Reopening our Province, which consisted of a gradual re-opening process. It was then announce d that certain businesses would be allowed to reopen on May 4 if they follow specific safety guidelines.

The government has released Health and Safety Association Guidance Documents for various industries to support employers and employees in staying safe and healthy while operating.

We encourage you to take the time to review the documents relevant to your industry to be ready to go when your business can reopen.
