Save-On-Foods responds to Food Bank's plea

When Sources Langley Food Bank made an urgent plea for donations of healthy proteins, the team at the Aldergrove and Langley Save-On-Foods stores answered with generosity. They donated several flats of tuna as well as garbanzo beans to accommodate the  staple in the diets of many of the Syrian families that have settled in Langley and visit our Food Bank. Christmas Lunch at
Women's Place

On December 5, nearly 45 women came to Sources Women's Place to enjoy the highly anticipated annual Christmas Lunch. The food was prepared and delivered to our centre by Morgan Creek Golf Course - thank you! Volunteers dished up the delicious meal, and staff circled the room singing carols. Read more here.
Season of Trees
Friend of the Sources Foundation Jas Salh hosted her client appreciation event with a fundraising element for Sources Food Banks on December 5. Boxes of food and close to $7,000 was fundraised through a decorated tree silent auction, Christmas crackers and donations. Thank you to Jas, co-host Elizabeth Jones and everyone who attended! Firefighters come
bearing gifts

On a bright and early December morning, the White Rock Firefighters Charity visited Sources. They weren't armed with hoses, but gifts! The crew generously donated toys, which will be distributed to children in our Family Services program. Thank you for making the holidays extra merry for families in our community!
SOURCES gets "Mugged!"

The staff at our head office were paid a visit from Willy, Kim and Alece from Rock 101 radio station, thanks to our coworker Gayle. The radio hosts came equipped with coffee and doughnuts for the SOURCES team, giving us a boost of energy to enhance social wellness for our community. See photos from the "mugging" here.
Advocacy Programs get extra gifts at Holiday Celebration
On December 15, Sources Advocacy Programs had a Holiday Celebration for clients. There was food, live music and a raffle draw for presents. Plus, an anonymous donor gave us $5,000, which will help us tremendously in supporting clients . Look for a blog post on this event in the near future!
Local Entrepreneur Raises Funds  for Women's Place
Claire Smith, owner and designer at BESOREAL Fashions Boutique in White Rock, presented a $300 cheque to Sources Women's Place. For the past month, she has sold handmade leather keychains, with all proceeds going to Women's Place. What's more, her store matched each sale! Thanks, Claire! The funds will be used to purchase healthy foods for our Hot Lunch Program. Learn more here.

From the SOURCES team and myself, I would like to thank everyone who makes SOURCES the organization we are today - our volunteers, donors, funders and community friends. Your ongoing generosity, contributions and support to SOURCES and the communities we serve are the backbone of social wellness for our community.
This summer, British Columbians witnessed a shift in policy and legislative agenda. With an increased focus on important social matters - such as poverty reduction, child care, substance use and mental health services, and homelessness prevention - we are optimistic for the future of our programs and services. Indeed, there is still much work to do. However, through this new energy, we look forward to improving the lives of the people we serve in the years to come.
During my recent travels to Southeast Asia, I had the opportunity to connect with organizations that assisted marginalized groups. My trip served as a deep reminder of vulnerable peoples and the precarious lives they lead. Because of this, I would like to give my heartfelt thanks to our staff and volunteers:
To our team south of the Fraser: Cloverdale, Ladner, Langley, South Surrey, Surrey and White Rock; and to our team up North: Dawson Creek, Fort St. James, Fort St. John, Fort Nelson, Prince George and Terrace. You make a difference in the lives of so many, and provide a sense of stability for those who need it most.
Our organization continues to expand as we respond to the growing needs of the public. Next year, SOURCES will be celebrating its 40th anniversary. Stay tuned as we celebrate 40 years of Social Wellness for our Community in 2018.
May your holidays be warm, merry and bright. All the best for the new year.
Yours truly,
David Young
