TAKE ACTION ➔ Immigration
As you may have heard, the Trump Administration finalized a federal administrative policy this week that forces millions of families to choose between the things they need and the people they love. As litigation is underway, we are part of a nationwide effort to keep families together and spread awareness of the impact this rule would have on our community. One way you can help is to share the following resources broadly :

What would lower housing costs mean for you, your livelihood and your family? YWCA Evanston/North Shore, in partnership with Joining Forces for Affordable Housing & Reclaim Evanston , are hoping to hear from people like YOU.

If you live – or would like to live – in Evanston and are interested in sharing more about your experience with us, please fill out and share our short survey . The results of the survey will be used to encourage the Evanston City Council to pass an affordable housing plan that works for EVERYONE in our community.
TAKE ACTION ➔ Gun Violence
Alejandra Y. Castillo, the CEO of our national affiliate, YWCA USA, released a powerful statement and call to action in response to the recent mass shootings in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio:

"Today, our prayers and support are with the people of El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio. Yet once again, we stand with communities that have been terrorized by active shooters whose only goal is to unleash fear, inflict pain and cause great loss of innocent life. Our YWCA network is here to support El Paso, Dayton, and all communities that have experienced the senseless tragedy of gun violence, and to help heal the trauma that gun violence inflicts. No community deserves this level of pain. We call on Congress and our national leaders to act now to end the fear and put in place common-sense solutions that work to create safe communities where women, girls, and families can thrive."
On the Radar...
The Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) passed the U.S. House of Representatives in April, and we are hearing that a companion bill will be introduced in the Senate by the end of August. Stay tuned through our Facebook page for ways to engage, including encouraging Senator Duckworth and Senator Durbin to cosponsor this important legislation.

For a full list of local, state, and federal policies we are tracking and additional ways to engage in advocacy, please see our Advocacy webpage .
