Finding Child Care Can Be Overwhelming

Child Action Can Help

We receive calls daily from parents overwhelmed by the process of finding the right child care for their new baby. Exploring the world of child care for the first time can seem like a big project.

Our child care specialists are ready to assist new parents in understanding child care options as they learn about the differences between center care and home-based child care.

Our specialists create space for parents to share their experiences and expectations for their infant’s care so that new moms and dads have confidence in their search for child care.

Along with a list of provider referrals that meet each family’s unique needs, families receive resources on choosing quality care to support them as they visit, interview, and ultimately select child care that is right for their family.

If you are looking for more information about finding quality care in your area, call

916-369-0191, email [email protected], or visit our website to start your search today.

Creating a Diverse Library of Children's Books

Children love to read books with characters that look like them and that celebrate their experiences. Books provide children opportunities to expand their horizons, learn about the world, and develop their social emotional vocabulary.

Explore inexpensive ways to fill your bookshelves with a variety of books that help children see themselves as well as appreciate others; borrow from the library, create a wish list for donations, or try online book re-sellers. Here are some books we are enjoying.

Outdoor Learning

Outdoor learning environments are an important part of early learning spaces for children. These spaces promote physical activity, play and learning across the curriculum, as well as inquiry, exploration, observation, and wonder. Outdoor learning can take place in the backyard, at the park, or even on a walk.

Here are a few ways to promote learning in outdoor spaces:

·Name Writing Nature Exploration - Find materials to use to spell out your name.

·Listening to Nature WalkWrite or discuss the sounds you hear as you are walking through nature.

·Math in Mother Nature - Take a measuring tool outside to measure, count, and sort the natural objects you find.

What is Juneteenth?

Juneteenth (short for “June Nineteenth”) marks the day when federal troops arrived in GalvestonTexas in 1865 to take control of the state and ensure that all enslaved people were freed.

The troops’ arrival came a full two and a half years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation.

Juneteenth honors the end to slavery in the United States and is considered the longest-running African American holiday. On June 17, 2021, it officially became a federal holiday.
