Child Care Budget Updates

2022-23 Legislative Budget Compromise Reached:

Over the past weekend, the legislature and Governor reached a budget compromise. The legislature released some details. Here is a link to some key budget child care highlights. As more information on the budget is released over the summer, we will continue to provide updates.

Attention Subsidy Parents:

Another item being discussed in this year’s budget is the waiving of parent fees from July 1, 2022–June 30, 2023.

The budget is expected to be adopted by lawmakers this week and signed into law by the Governor.

Because this is a pending item with the Governor’s office, we have been advised not to send out parent fee bills until further notice.

More information to follow as it becomes available.

Summertime Outdoor Play

Outdoor play and activities are an important part of healthy development. Provide safe outdoor opportunities throughout the heat of summer with these tips:

·Arrange your schedule to take advantage of cooler morning hours

·Set up a play area in the shade of trees, umbrellas, or canopies

·Incorporate water play using small shallow tubs, cups to pour from, plastic toys, funnels, or spoons

·Set up a “Mud Kitchen”, mix up some mud, and let children explore this impactful sensory experience

·“Paint” sidewalks, fences, trees, and other outdoor items with water buckets and big paintbrushes

·Provide plenty of water to drink and monitor children for signs of heat-related illness:

Reopening to Build Child Care Supply

Family child care providers are a crucial part of the child care infrastructure. During the past two years, people across the nation have realized how much families depend on having stable, reliable, quality child care choices.

Like any other profession, providers sometimes take a break, explore other careers, or feel burnt out or stagnant.

Now is the time to rejoin the child care field.

Our child care coordinators are ready to support providers that would like to explore getting relicensed. We are planning for a new year of trainings, coaching, and support groups in multiple languages. Financial assistance may be available.

Contact us at 916-369-0191 or [email protected] if you would like more information about re-opening your family child care program.

If you are completing First Aid, CPR, or a Preventative Health Practices class in 2022-2023, send in your application for a rebate as early as you can. Funds are limited. Proof of payment for the course and a copy of your training cards will be needed.
