Supporting the Caregiver

Untitled Design_p1.png

When someone is diagnosed with cancer, family members and friends often become caregivers overnight, taking on responsibilities without a roadmap. From managing appointments and medications to providing emotional support, caregivers play an essential role throughout the cancer journey. Yet while they focus on caring for someone else, their own well-being is often overlooked.

Caregiving can be deeply meaningful, but it can also bring stress, anxiety, grief, exhaustion, and burnout. Taking care of your own mental health isn't a luxury—it's essential. Making time to rest, accept help, connect with supportive friends or a counselor, practice mindfulness, take a walk, or simply pause for a few quiet moments each day can help restore the energy needed to continue providing care. Remember, asking for support is a sign of strength, not weakness.

Behind the Bag:

What's in All Those Boxes?

This summer, we spent some time reorganizing, taking inventory, and making sure we have the supplies we need to keep bags moving out the door and into the hands of people who need them.

It may not be the glamorous side of nonprofit work, but it's an important part of making sure every Bag It Bag is ready to go when a healthcare provider requests one.

And yes, sometimes you really do have to climb into the boxes.
