Dear Friends,
MY HERO is a free, not-for-profit educational project that is used online in classrooms around the world. Our mission is to use media, art and technology to celebrate the best of humanity. Since 1995, we have been building an online library of essays, art, short films and lesson plans with content submitted by teachers and students as well as professional writers, artists and filmmakers around the globe.
MY HERO provides a safe, curated online venue for students to discover and share hero stories with a global audience. Families can use MY HERO to promote positive values and an appreciation for diversity in a number of ways:
- Educators and parents can tailor MY HERO resources and activities to meet individual needs. Our focus on heroes provides a clear, customizable framework for prompts and assignments, using our extensive libraries of stories, art and films.
- Examining Character Traits is a good way for students to dive into the concept of heroism in their daily lives.
- MY HERO Audio Stories can be used by English language learners and those with visual impairment.
- Forums allow the collective exploration of the concept of heroism.
- MY HERO Media Contests provide prizes and incentive for students to engage in creative self expression.
How it works:
Students use our
Create
program to publish essays and media online. Teachers can provide students with a class code to easily group their classroom work into a directory webpage organizer. There are also organizers that facilitate exploration of topics, like
social studies
or
ocean studies
.
Global audience:
Work published on MY HERO gives students a worldwide audience. Classes in more than 200 countries have participated in The MY HERO Project, helping to raise awareness of local and global heroes addressing the greatest challenges of our time.
Getting started:
