Update from DFX for Client Families

Resources for Accessing Food and Supporting Those in Need

Many families who come to DFX are impacted by the federal government's interruption of SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) funding. DFX is reaching out to share information about places where those in need can access food. In addition, we offer ideas on how to support these community organizations if you are in a position to do so.

According to Food Bank of the Rockies, one in seven children and one in eight adults in Colorado are facing food insecurity. On November 3, the US Department of Agriculture announced that SNAP payments would be sent out, but that benefits may be reduced by half and payments will be delayed. As the situation continues to evolve, food pantries, community organizations, and the state and local governments are working hard to fill the void.

We hope you'll find these resources helpful as you navigate these challenging times. Please reach out if you have suggestions or questions. Thank you for being part of the DFX family.

Below we share links to food bank locators and other organizations that are supporting families in need.

WAYS TO SUPPORT THOSE IN NEED

Community centers, schools, faith-based organizations, and neighbors are stepping in to provide food and other resources to those who are struggling because of the reduction or elimination of federal support.

Donate: If you have the means to make a donation, that is a quick and easy way to make an impact. Food Bank of the Rockies and other food banks purchase large quantities of food at greatly reduced prices, so your dollar goes further than if you were to buy food yourself and donate it.

Volunteer: Food distribution centers also need volunteers to help pack and distribute food. Call centers in your neighborhood and schedule a time to help.

Check on your Neighbors: Reach out to neighbors to ask if they need help. Share these resources with anyone you think might need them. Visit DenverGov.org/Food to find additional resources.

Ten Ways to Support Your Community Right Now: Click here for a slide deck created by the City of Denver that includes suggestions on how to help your community.
