School is back in session and so is Office of Nighttime Economy's N.I.T.E. School. We're partnering with Oakland Business Improvement District this month and there are seats still available - free snacks and some validated parking in the Hilton Garden Inn Oakland.
Presented by social workers, the 60 minute in-person training provides guidance for how to engage with an employee, co-worker, customer or stranger who has entered a business exhibiting signs of drug or mental distress.
Attendees will learn:
- Recognizing behaviors of someone experiencing mental health or drug crises
- When to call 911
- What you can do to de-escalate the situation while waiting for help to arrive
- Implementing self-care after the stressful event
- How to administer Narcan

The Creative Sector Flex Fund provides $5,000 grants to arts organizations in Allegheny, Beaver, Greene, and Washington counties with average annual revenues between $10,000 - $200,000
Grantees have the flexibility to use the $5,000 grants in ways that ensure the most significant impact for their organizations and communities. Eligible uses include the support of applicants’ administrative, programmatic, project-related expenses, and more.

A big Congratulations to 412 Food Rescue. In 215 they were just a scrappy nonprofit frequenting Pittsburgh's restaurants and grocery stores, rescuing good food that would have been thrown out and taking it to the neighborhoods where it was needed most. Ten years later, 412 Food Rescue is the largest volunteer food rescue organization in the U.S!
