/I.S. 178 The Holliswood School - Queens

Students in grades 5 and 6 at The Holliswood School are participating in the
365give Challenge
.
The challenge involves doing one act of kindness a day and logging it on the 365give website to inspire others and create lasting positive global change. Holliswood students have completed over 100 “gives” so far since they began the project. They connected with Jacqueline Way, the project’s founder, on a video call and were featured in her blog twice.
Some students’ acts of giving were small, such as making birthday cards for the school custodian and donating items like a favorite book or stress ball to a teacher’s “Cozy Corner” for students who need to calm down.
Other “gives” took more planning and time. These included making dog treats in the classroom and donating them to an animal rescue organization and collecting 245 pairs of socks for
Knock Knock Give A Sock
. The class took a trip to donate the socks and learned how their donations would support people who are homeless.
The “gives” have even continued during remote learning! Here are some service actions students have completed that are great options for anyone wanting to conduct service at home:
- Cleaning out a closet and donating clothing to St. Mary’s Church Clothing Drive.
- Calling a friend or family member and letting them know how much they’re appreciated.
- Playing games on BeanBeanBean, a website that donates ad revenue from games played to food banks and other charitable organizations.
- Posting compliments to classmates on Google Classroom.
