What to do when your child can't go to school

As many places in the US and around the world are worried about school closures and having to stay home to combat the novel coronavirus, here are some resources and activities you can do when your child is unable to attend school.

The Kid Zone!

Use our  Kid Zone! to help your elementary age child build literacy skills in a fun and interactive way. In the Kid Zone!, you and your child can access ebooks, audiobooks, and stream videos of stories read aloud. You can be your child’s tour guide when participating in literacy opportunities together:

LISTEN: Notice speech sounds, letters, words, or ideas that seem hard.

LOOK: Watch for skills or tasks that seem difficult.

WAIT: Give time to self-correct, then provide a hint if needed.

ENCOURAGE: Praise and reassure as you talk about the book or activity.

TALK: Talk with your child’s teacher about what you learned.
